I suppose the answer is to come up with some sort of Venn diagram of funny, short and relevant.

Jimmy Cranky?

but are, for instance, newspapers, modern communication?

I think pretty much any sort of communication is a fair target. It doesn't matter if it's a modern form of communication as long as the comment is on the modern usage of it.

Smoke signals are fine then, good

They probably would be if you could find a good angle on using them in the modern world :)

I had been thinking of a sketch using jungle drums in a Facebook stylee.

Hmmm, I am beginning to understand the brief a bit better now. Juxtaposition of communication forms within a modern world context (Hey, I sound almost intelligent). Thanks Afinkawan.

I can't remember if it's in the writer's room brief but 'modern bullshit' generally is part of the brief.

Yeah, I was going to mention that. Credit crunch stuff is probably a good area to pitch at, for example.

I was scribbling last night about a 999 call where the operator needs an ambulance more than the the person calling...has turned into one of the biggest tangent fiestas I've ever concocted...I'm gonna write it up and submit it :)

Funny how these things work out :D

Yeah, I often do that where I start writing a sketch and all of a sudden it goes off on a tangent in a comletely different direction. :P

I've got four sketches written, of which I'll need to decide which three to send.

I think I'll wait 'til nearer the deadline, just in case my warped brain oozes out any more strange notions that I can turn into sketches. ;)

Well yeah, we have plenty of time so I'm gonna workshop it in the noodle for a while :)

As regards the brief, I think 'modern bullshit' would have made it clearer as that's what the show appears to be about.

I've written two pieces for this that I'm happy with and currently working on rewriting a third.

Even if they don't get in, I'm pleased to see that my radio writing skills have improved since Tilt was on.

That is the right way to go about it. Good luck.

I've got three ideas that I hope will work, but I'm still brainstorming before I write it up. Then the hope gives way to reality and probable rejection. Keep positive!

Tilt is coming back btw. Not sure when, but bear this in mind when writing your scripts to see which of the two shows they would fit in better.

Isn't Tilt a topical satirical show though?
Different to RFTP.

Is the link correct? it won't load on my computer.
