Zinc: Street Magician

I've wrote another quick sketch (about 5-10 minutes to write). Once again going for something original, and creating a character so it is possible for a series. Don't jump on me for the name "Zinc", i was struggling to think of a name for a magician.

INT. NORMAL FAMILY LIVING ROOM [DAY]

TEEN STREET-MAGICIAN TIMOTHY EVANS (AKA ZINC) IS SITTING ON AN ARMCHAIR SHUFFLING THROUGH A DECK OF CARDS. HIS MOTHER WALKS BY.

ZINC:
(FANNING OUT CARDS) Mam, pick a card.

MOTHER:
I don’t have the time Timothy.

ZINC:
(ANNOYED) No mam, it’s ‘Zinc’, ‘Zinc Street Magician’.

MOTHER:
Then why are you inside?

ZINC:
It’s cold out … pick a card.

MOTHER PICKS OUT CARD

ZINC:
Now, don’t show me, simply absorb the card’s indentity into your mi-i-i- (SNEEZES, PLAYING CARDS GO ALL OVER THE PLACE)

MOTHER:
Oh look at that. (PUTTING TISSUE TO HIS FACE) Blow.

ZINC BLOWS HIS NOSE INTO THE TISSUE AND MOTHER REMOVES IT

ZINC:
Wow, you’ve made all the stuff in my nose disappear. How did you do that? (GETTING OUT OF SEAT) Actually, it doesn’t matter, because I have something special for you. (ZINC RETRIEVES TWO SILVER RINGS FROM TABLE) The Ring Trick! Both rings are separate but …

ZINCE STARTS TO HIT THE RINGS TOGETHER UNTIL ONE OF THEM SLIPS OUT OF HIS HAND AND FLIES OUT OF SHOT. A SMASHING SOUND IS HEARD.

MOTHER:
(SLIGHTLY ANGRY) That ornament is coming out of your pocket money.

END

BUMPing this so my previous work is seperated and forgotten about as i was told to do by the moderator(S).

I really liked this sketch Walker. I liked mam blowing Zincs nose & the line "Wow, you made all the stuff in my nose disapear"
I thought the two characters flowed just lovely together.

Hi Walker

Short and snappy. I like this one.

The sneezing seems a bit coincidental (which is generally bad in comedy). If his mother was busily dusting when he tries to engage her. She uninterestedly takes a card with one hand, whilst still dusting the table with the other. Then dusts around his head and to his nose it will give both a visual laugh and also a reason for him to sneeze.

IMO, I think you'd be better calling him 'trainee street magician' or 'YTS...' or something.

You're right though, feels right for a recurring character and he could get up to all sorts of mischief.

Hope this is useful

Dan

Redemption comes through warm, funny sketches like this. I like the lightness of touch here

I wasn't sure about the nose-blowing bit personally, but otherwise very good. :)

Made me chuckle anyway.

So far so good. Thanks for the so far kind words about Zinc, though i wanted to call him a "Street Magician" because he ironically never ends up on the street, hence the line "It's cold out." A joke that people may have missed. I do agree that the sneeze seems random though, Dan's dusting idea sounds good.

This is a good idea Walker. Liked it.

Wasn't there a really annoying 'trainee' street magician in the latter series of 'League of Gentlemen'?

I liked the sketch, Walker... and I agree with Dan's 'dusting' idea. The line 'because it's cold out' is very funny.

Maybe he could be doing his magic by the window so it appears at first that he is outside, then when his mothers asks why he is indoors, you could have a reveal. Otherwise, it's good.

Yeah

Same goes for me. I liked this one. Quite gentle and an amusing character. Sort of the Anti-Blaine

I likeed aswell, he could be really down wid it like that dynamo fella, good

I liked it too.

Wow, it's a hit :) I'll do another one of these for definate.

Yeah, Dean Tavalouris. Made me think of him too.
It was the whiny 'Mum' stuff.
