I hoped for a writing partner...

I had a meeting with a like minded writer yesterday, I was quite excited about the prospect of going over some ideas with a view to working on something together. Unfortunately it didn't work out, the meeting went well and he's a nice chap, but I think were too far apart. I know it's good to be opposites therefore you can spot things that the other person doesn't, but I feel a little disappointed.

I feel with most things I do I would appreciate a writing partner. I think I'm the ideal partner, a good listener, good sense of humour, open to ideas, but will stand my ground, I can read and write which helps.

Lee and David from here are looking for writing partners. But only for titles.

Still looking??? I gave them 75,000 alternatives!

If this guy you met doesn't seem like the one you want to hook up with then so bit it. You just need to move on.

You could try doing some small assignments with prospective partners; say some sketches or sitcom outline. That way you might be able to gauge if the two of you can work together without you having to jump into a major project only to find out you're not compatable.

How often do today's writing partners actually meet up?

Should you have to?

I would assume people like Gervais & Merchant are in quite regular contact about stuff. I know Perry & Croft didn't write DA together, but wrote about 40 episodes each.

It's hard to say. If I had a partner I'd want to write with them, not write something then e-mail it.

Dunno, how do you work with Tim?

Well, at the moment via email, but we haven't really collaborated on anything massive yet, only little bits.

Our next and proper project will be the test for us.

Obviously we speak on the phone at least once a week.

I always fear a writing partnership would end in a bust up. There must always be one member of any successful duo, who feels he is more talented than the other, and deserves more credit, and money.

That's the plan!

I had a writing partner, but he vanished. :(
