'Eyes Down' the series was written by Angela Clarke but Fitzmaurice was in it. It's a while since I listened to the commentary so I don't know who Kay points the finger at or how seriously his criticism is intended but he does make some slightly sarcastic comment about Fitzmaurice being in a successful BBC comedy called 'Eyes Down'

I bet Kay and McGuiness are thick as thieves. Best mates in real life, so I reckon a lot of Kay's bravado towards others is for his benefit.
Just watching this, and I've got to say some of the funniest stuff I've seen for a while. I've been laughing all night! Really surprised at how good it is actually and looking forward to the second bit.
The one problem I had with this was that the "crap" auditions on the X factor are funnier as they are real and genuine, also the flogging of 4/5 songs for every act was far too much, not enough funny moments for me.
I liked the bits inbetween the songs a lot more than the songs.
This is lifeless dull and dreary, not a patch on Pheonix nights.

It upsets me to know that you're being serious.
Heyho.

I agree, and it's not being suffocated by Peter Kay either.
The bits he's done, though, have been very good.

For disliking Britains got blah blah,
or liking Pheonix Nights?
I'm loving it. I liked the clever choice of some of the songs.
The medleys were very clever.

Neither; for saying that THIS is "lifeless dull and dreary" with the implication that Phoenix Nights isn't. Each to their own.
I love character comedy, Pheonix was about the best character comedy around.
As such I suppose it was a lousy sitcom.

I quite agree with this sentiment. The real X Factor has loopier people on it than Kay was showing. I didn't really give it much of a chance to get going though so perhaps I should watch the rest (I've taped it)
"I think you're gonna walk it."
