I guess...but it's really not that funny. Plus the characters are very different between season 1 and 3. Sort of like the Simpsons if you know what I mean. Cartman becomes a full blown racists, Kenny stops dieing all the time for a cheap laugh and new and much funnier characters enter like Timmy and Butters.

yea I guess you're right. there were some pretty good ones in season one.
That espisode is in season 1 episode 9 (just looked it up on IMDB).
Looks like Timmy came in season 4.

Well at first the humor in SP was predominantly shock humor. Even I thought it was funny at first, people would watch to see in what creative way Kenny would die. It was also funny to see how nervous Kenny would get knowing he was inevitably going to be killed off in some horrible way.
By the second season you could tell even the writers were getting tired of being forced to do the same joke over and over. You would hear Stan say in a lackluster voice "oh my god...*sigh* they killed Kenny" and the episode would go on like nothing happened.
By the 3rd they had pretty well just removed the ongoing joke thankfully. I remember some friends saying "as if they stopped killing Kenny that was the best part". They were stupid people though who also couldn't figure out why more people didn't like Big Momma's House.
Kenny is a character that really grew on me,when I was younger I thought he was pointless but then you begin to realize just what he's saying in the murmurs and he becomes quite endearing.
South Park's cast is amazingly strong but it isn't as overt as say the Simpsons. People like Butters' dad,Mr Garrison, Randy Marsh, Jimmy, The Two Cops-Yates and Murphy, City Wok Guy, Token, Clyde, Craig and Mr Mackey really add depth beyond the four/five boys.
I'm glad to see certain characters retired though. Chef,Barbrady, Tweek, Ms Crabtree and Ms Chokesondik really didn't have anywhere else to go.
Randy Marsh is fantastic! And Butter's parents too!
Randy Marsh is by far my favorite character.
