What is this?

The BBC's main page has a story about the economic situation and the accompanying photo has me stumped. I assume it's the inside of a refrigerator, but what are the objects in the photo? They look like a wedding corsage and a tube of toothpaste, but I assume those aren't UK fridge staples. Any help?

Tomato puree in a tube and a bag of mixed salad leaves, with I assume carrot.

I concur, except that I don't think there's any carrot in that bag.

I've never heard of tomatoes in a tube. Interesting.

It's just puree. Like ketchup. But for cooking with. What you get under the cheese on your pizza.

We simple Brits are scared of whole vegetable, so we imprison them in tubes.

Is tomato puree the same as tomato paste? We have that in cans, but I've never seen it in a tube.

That it is.

As sooty says, yes it is. I think you can also get it in cans, and I know you can get it in jars, but the tube's obviously a lot easier because it's squeezy (toothpaste). And incredibly cheap.

But isn't one concentrated and the other not?

Our attention to detail on BSG is just awesome! :)

Flip knows. Possibly!

Tomato puree smells nice.

That is all.

I agree.

And I've certainly never just eaten a whole load straight out of the tube, based on that smell.

Whistling nnocently

Oh dear.
