Sitcoms that ended on a high Page 2

Loved the second; though I know some didn't; which I find weird! It was slightly broader, but just as good as far as I'm concerned.

Pah! I'm a big Linehan fan; but I love it just as much throughout all three series. One of the best Brit-coms of the last ten years. I'm now going to slap myself for using the term 'brit-com'.

I got so disappointed watching series three.

Ah, just read what you were replying to. Could state you case in plainer language though!

No. No, she couldn't. Unfortunately.

Yeah, because there's no hyphen in "Britcom". Naughty Matthew.

Come on; surely britcom/brit-com isn't a real, proper, dictionary approved word?! That being the case, I can hyphenate it all over the bloody shop! Br-it-com-.(-)

Police Squad.

Wasn't the Simaon Pegg episode in series three? Anyway, I liked all three.

League of Gents.

They stopped at exactly the time Royston Vasey was still ace. And *just* before it would have been too much.

I liked all three too. I genuinely don't see a decline. Although they have a different feel.

Yep to them finsihing on a high; but I really hope that they come back with something soon. Doesn't have to be in Royston Vasey.

Yeah, that was the only good one.

LoG on telly ended on a glorious high. But the film taints the whole canon.

Good call.

Nah, they just made a not-too-good film; everyone makes mistakes! I'm sure they're still more than capable of putting together something great.

That makes the presumption that a dramatic creation can never be greater than its originator.

I disagree. It's not necessarily the case that a writer with sufficient savvy and sensitivity would invariably find it impossible to take over the reins from the original author. I find this thesis untenable. Indeed, I might as easily propose that certain writers could actually have IMPROVED certain sitcoms which they themselves did not pen originally.

Care to give an example? Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin are fine sitcom writers, but they made a pig's ear of Shelley. Some of the old ITV sitcoms always had teams of writers on board on the American model, and maintained standards, but that is not quite the same thing.

Elephants and Hens is one of my favorite episodes of the entire run of Black Books. I also liked Moo-ma and Moo-pa...the little bar under their table was great.

Oh f**k the film.

Their Christmas Special was a (TV) film, and that was magnificent.

I definitely want them back on TV together, but obviously not with Royston Vasey characters. I want something new (as they do).

The Xmas special was brilliant - THAT is what the film should have been like.

I reckon they'll return at some point.

Fawlty Towers definetly. I still find it absolutely remarkable how I can still watch the twelve episodes- no matter having seen each one umpteen times and still laugh my arse off.

I was unaware he had an 'A' in his name.
