Reasons for script rejection

Positive enough feedback from a production company...but...they've something slightly similar in development. Will other production companies who don't still be interested or do they tend to know what the other ones are working on? And is this the "best" reason you can get for rejection (rather than "it was sh1te" etc)?

"Many thanks for the script. It was an enjoyable read and highly imaginative but I'm afraid, for me, it's not something we could pursue. We currently have a show in development featuring ... and we are not looking for anything else in this area. "

Sounds like a good response to me. And a very common problem I'm afraid. But yes, show it to other prod cos and see what they think.

Sounds are a "good" rejection.
Keep passing it around. :)

It wasn't Wembley was it? Please tell me it wasn't.

The "..featuring.." bit?

Nah, he hasn't done much since Fraggle Rock. Apart from a non-speaking role as "Jasmine Allen Resident 3" on The Bill. He also does all Milton Jones' stunts.

Companies have lots in development, many of which might never see the light of day. So it doesn't matter, just take it elsewhere.

That's a good response and definitely offers encouragement, good luck with it!

This is one rejection I got. I thought it was quite a friendly rejection to be honest:

I owe you an apology for taking so long to deal with your script. Thank you for submitting it. I'm sorry to say we have decided not to take it forward into development. Despite the fact it is entertaining we feel, on reflection, that it doesn't suit our output at the present time. Good luck with it elsewhere.

Def.

I got one telling me that they already have some 'on the table' about a 'work environment'. That's quite a generalisation I thought! But at least it was a very polite rejection and very encouraging in other things it said.

My favourite was:-

" It's the sort of laugh-out-loud, feel-good piece that people would love to watch, but unfortunatley it's not the kind of thing we're commissioning at the moment"

You can say that again, Yorkshire TV.

That does have ITV all over it! ;)

Dan

Lazzard, that's priceless! Laughing out loud
