I think we've upset someone Page 19

You keep away from my long dark tunnel, Bussell.

..unless you provide your own quilted, toilet paper.

Perry that's a terrific summary of your career, thanks for taking the time.

No probs Griff. Funnily enough I fancied a break from writing cards. Smarmy

Perry...a fab write-up/cv. I'd have committed suicide at about 2006

Hale and Pace? Wonder if that was the ep my daughter was in :D

Good stuff? Good stuff is what you like yourself. That's the problem. And most of the time we make throw away comments. We say "It's crap", etc. because people can't be arsed to explain why they don't like something.

I often say "The Office" is crap but I can rarely be arsed to explain why it's crap for me. Who cares anyway?

Like I just can't be arsed to read any more of this thread. It's crap!! :)

I used the term 'good stuff' in a direct response to the post I was replying to. Which used, funnily enough, the term 'good stuff'.

:)

Give our comedy writing industry some support. We all need to laugh right now, so put that energy into making us laugh. And in times of global uncertainty and financial restraint, comedy shows are watched more than most. Broadcasters will be looking for good, fun and happy comedy. Not cynical rants.

I'm sorry sour grapes?

Sorry 2CT, but I feel you have some real issues with how your work is taken on board.

At the end of the day yes, you can go through all the shit to get a commision, but at the very end of the day, if we don't like it, you can bet your arse we're going to make our opinion loud and clear.

Forums give people without names the ability to air their views, not just writers but members of the public and just because someone says they could write better, do they have to literally mean it? I said I'd kill my niece yesterday if she didn't hand me the remote, did I kill her? No surprisingly enough I didn't.

I think you're taking this a bit too much to the heart, unfortunatly one thing writers tend to have is a very large and fragile ego, and I don't want replys to my post saying it's crap because it's not.

If someone doesn't like your pilot, except and learn from it, don't have ago at the people who slated - pick yourself up and write something better!

Thanks Perry inspiring and daunting. That's the closest I've seen to a road map on how to succed as a writer.

I have been fortunate enough to work on a new TV series that received petty criticism on these forums when only one episode had aired.

I have seen vitriol and sour grapes aimed at new series which try to offer something rich, but different and also showcase a great swathe of creative talent at the top of their game (the actors, director, producers, musicians, editor and make up designer).

Were you the make up designer?

I know as a writer the last thing I want is undeserved praise.

2CT seems only ever to visit us when he's telling us off.

Ah, you meant good stuff when I thought you meant good stuff. I stand contorted!

No new writers ever get that, not from other pros anyway. It's in no one's interest.

2Christian typists.
I take a lot of what has been said,on these threads, particularly this one, as tongue in cheek p*ss-taking. A lot of the posts make me laugh so much...hey we could use 'em for a sitcom.
Regarding My Family, I think it should be advertised as a light entertainment drama, I don't think it classifies as a sitcom. I'd be happy with that, but I have found so far that only one episode of it has made me split my sides laughing, I think it was the one where his ex wanted his sperm. Otherwise it is witty but not a belly-laugh production, to me a sitcom is lots of belly-laughs like Two Pints and Gimme Gimme

I post under a pseudonym only because I don't want my employers to stumble upon how much time I spend here when I'm supposed to be working. Five seconds' worth of detective work/extra clickery would elicit my real name.

Mine too.
This puts me neatly in both camps.

To misquote Woody Allen here... those that can write, can...those that can't, write books about it... and those that can't do neither write on blogs about other people not being able to do it properly.

*either

Indeed. And lets you off the hook of having to endure an abusive interview with Bussell.

One of my great pleasures is verbally sparring with Bussell. It's like a war of wits...even though I don't usually fight with an unarmed man...
:P

Well I've not succeeded yet... ;)
