I was watching American sitcom The Nanny, the other night, when I was up really late, and noticed there's a boy in it, whose name is Brighton Sheffield. The funniest thing about this, is that his Father in the show, Mr Sheffield, is English. By the way, for any non-British people reading this, Brighton and Sheffield are both names of English cities. So, is there a worse sitcom character name than this?
Stupid sitcom character names
Heathcliff Huxtable?
Ralph Malph?
Munch.
Rick Spleen always annoys me as a character name.
There's a weird little fat kid in the film Bad Santa who turns out to be called Thurman Merman which made me howl for some reason.
Also, you can't fault "McLovin'" as the name of a character (Superbad).
DAVE. The most overused name in British comedy.
Hercules as a name for the tired old nag in Steptoe & Son always made me laugh. Dunno why.
There was a character in Monkey Island, an old computer game I used to play called "Guybrush Threepwood". Sometimes that name just pops into my head and I can't get it out again, I just walk around repeating it to myself all day like a complete spaz.
Godber's a strange name isn't it? I'd never call a character Godber. It's one of those names that people reading your script would go "Why Godber?"
Guillaume Valerie Secretan.

You say that as if Monkey Island is antique! Easily my favourite game ever.
Fact: The character was just called Guy Threepwood originally but the graphics program used to create him would add 'Brush' onto the file name, so they stuck with it.
Hyacienth Bucket. Hilarious.
Big Suze (Peep Show) always make me laugh.

Yeah, it's a bit slap-in-the-face obvious.

And "Super Hans". One of the genius things about Peep Show is that there is absolutely no explanation of why he might be called Super Hans. He just is.
Yeah, it's a bit slap-in-the-face obvious.
Exactly. It seems very out of place for a "realistic" sitcom like Lead Balloon, you could understand if it was in a Carry On movie or something. Unless (realises he might have been being an idiot) - is that meant to be the character's stage name / pen name, not his real one?

Oh?
What's obvious about it?
