Some have a problem with Ricky Gervais

I think he's great, but I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, thats only natural.

However, I read a thread on here about why he never appears on stuff like HIGNFY and am always hearing criticism of him for things that baffle me.

I read a quote from him where he said he'd been asked to appear on HIGNFY a couple of times, but would prefer to watch it on a Friday night as apposed to having to miss it because he was on it.

I have even now started to hear people have a go at him for doing Ghost Town because he didn't write and direct it too, people saying he did it for the money. If he was doing things for the money surely he'd have accepted those American Gin adverts worth a reported 2 million or appeared in the endless amount of films he was offered roles in.

It's crazy that this man is criticised as much as he is in my opinion, I agree that Steve Merchant doesn't get enough credit for The Office & Extras, but Ricky has done some great stuff in my opinion. Some people just seem to want him to fail.

I think Ricky is great. He's one of my favourite comedians, both his work and in interviews.

Yeah, people who don't like him will knock him. What does he care, he's laughing all the way to the bank.
I like to bash Simon Pegg, who annoys me. But I shouldn't think he cares much either about some moaning tosser on a messageboard.

I guess it's also the British mentality of knocking somebody because their successful. Compared with America where they love success we always find something a bit sinister about it.

Angelic Ricky's great.
(B) I'd pick him over Smerch (no disrespect to the latter).
(C) He discovered Pilkers, which makes him even better.

As I said in the initial post on this thread, I really think Ricky is great, but when I watch The Office & Extras sometimes I can just picture Merchant coming up with some of the good lines, I don't know why. They both compliment each other well though.

1) I like Ricky Gervais I think he's talented.
2) I liked the Office I thought it was very funny.
3) I do think people make to much of a fuss about the Office though. The format and style of the show was nothing new. But like i said...I still think the Office was a very funny show.
4) I really want to see his new movie it looks great!

I like Gervais, he's great. That's about it.

Though he (and Pegg, and Coogan)'s obsession with being in films as an 'actor' rather than doing their own thing is a bit of a shame.

I love him too. Surely someone'll come along in a second and hate him.

That thread you mention is a very old one though, there was a period of extreme Ricky bashing around here, but I think most of them have got over it now...

;)

Agreed!

I do wish he (along with Simon Pegg and Russell Brand) would come back to England and work here though. I don't like them fecking off to America indefinitely.

Smerch? Pilkers? Are you best mates or something, Tommy? Errr

I wish him, Pegg, and Coogan would do some sort of project/film together.

I think Pegg's probably the one we've lost to America. Gervais and Coogan will be back. In fact Coogan is in a TV drama with Craig Cash this week.

:(

Can't it be like in Deer Hunter?
Can't we go and get him? We can't leave a man out there.
