The Secret Policeman's Ball Page 3

Deep breaths, zooo. You know she's not in your league.

I am a much better DJ than her...

I've got an 86-year-old Great Auntie, who looked exactly like Jo Wiley, when she was younger.

I don't doubt that for a second. But then we never doubt you, zooo. :)

It was all a piece of runny shit.

True, but as I said, these shows arene't as professionally prepared as they once were.

It's because people have less sympathy these days. They kinda care about human rights, but not enough to use their A-material.

If they ever had 'A' material...?

From what I hear, the behind-the-scenes production of the show was rather, shall we say, lacking.

(And indeed, relative to the surrounds of the RAH, more or less the kind of thing Amnesty is actually there to stop.)

The highlights on C4 were, somewhat obviously, cut to bits and well out of sequence.

Frank Skinner was on first and his routine was longer than shown. He did a good joke about not wanting to go back to a womens house for sex in case he was murdered - which was cut. His story about shagging the woman was also longer and involved her child walking into the room. This was actually quite funny but I guess C4 saw fit to cut that bit (can't have kids and sex mentioned!)

The two guys from Gavin & Stacey, who appeared to be on straight after, were actually not on in the first half of the show. Why they put them second on the highlights programme I don't know. I watched the highlights and found their routine dull.

After Frank Skinner was Ed Burne. He did a routine about an 11 year old girl wearing a tracksuit with 'Gorgeous' written on the arse. His joke was about what a slapper it made her seem and why her parents would allow her to dress like that. It was quite funny - but obviously never made it onto the C4 highlights.

I was looking forward to Alan Carr, but his routine was not up to his usual good standard. Very sub par to be honest. It was also cut to bits on the C4 highlights. The introduction by Jonathan Ross was way longer too, but unfunny.

I found the Mitchell & Web Sketch boring. Pure and simple.

The bit on the C4 show where Graham Norton introduced the Oz singer guy Tim Mitchin(sp?) was bizarre. That introduction was actually to a song called 'Ginger' which Tim did near the start. The song you see on the C4 show was from the second half. Perhaps making fun of Ginger haired people is no longer tolerated? Regardless, the Ginger song was a lot funnier than the one shown on TV.

That American comic (flight of the concords) was on for much longer than you saw on TV. She did one good joke at the start about knocking someone over in her car (which was cut for TV) then the rest of her routine was about Ann Bolyn and her jilted boyfriend. It was way too long and dull.

Shappi Khorsandi was the highlight of the first half. Her routine was longer than that shown on TV and she was really good.

By the interval I had seen everyone I wanted to. Overall I found the show rather dull (even if it was for a good cause).

I was actually a bit annoyed that those on stage only ever addressed the people and the cameras on the first tear of the audience - when in fact the albert hall actually has five audience floors that reach up close to its doomed roof. I thought - hey there are all of these floors of people who have travelled up to London and paid £70 to see this and yet I'd get better coverage if I watched it in a local cinema or waited for the highlights show. Yes I realise that it was a big event that had more significance than just the people there, but call me old fashioned, but that sort of thing irritates me.

Weighing everythnig up, by half time interval both I and 'her indoors' had had enough. In all honesty there simply wasn't enough pull to entice us to stay any longer.

Def.

Tim Minchin.

Horne and Corden was the least funny supposedly funny thing I've ever seen. And most of you have never seen Irish sitcoms.

Yep, Corden and Horne sucked big time. If that's what Gavin and Stacey is like thank f**k I don't watch it.

Well, its not like that.
