Trying to remember the name

Does anyone remember a sitcom in which someone (might have been a few people) woke up to find they were suddenly alone in the world, I have a feeling it might have been shot on the Yorkshire Moors....could be wrong about that though. Sorry, not much to go on I know.

Hi Dan, welcome to the site. Afraid it's not ringing any bells for me at the moment. Any idea what channel it may have been on, or when? 1980s?

Thanks. I think it would have been 80's or maybe early 90's.

Are you sure it wasn't 'Castaway' with Ben Fogle? That was quite funny. Cool

"Running Wild" with Michelle Collins? (1987) Nah, think that was in atown... not out in the 'wild.'

No it wasn't that. I think castaway was a reality show.

Hmm was it a dreadful sitcom based on Survivors?

Self Catering?

"Comedy drama. The five survivors of a plane crash are stranded on an idyllic island, after a while they begin to take on the names and characteristics of their favourite film stars."

Starring John Gordon Sinclair

Wasn't that an awful one off, and JGS gets eaten?

It always tickles me when someone posts a thread on an obscure sitcom that sunk without trace. I like the fact that there are people out there (possibly) being kept awake at night in a desperate attempt to remember the name of one. (Perhaps a sitcom of mine in 30 years will prompt such a post.)

Perhaps rather than trying to remember the names of actual sitcoms of old, we should just post about sitcoms that actually only exist in our own brains. For example, I vaguely remember a sitcom from the early 80's starring Nicholas Lyndhurst and Gregor Fisher as two men manning the last non-automated lighthouse in the country. It was located on the north-east coast of Scotland and they had a pet monkey. I think it was called 'When The Lights Go Out'. Anyone remember it?

(Talking of forgotten sitcoms, can I just mention my friend Penny's one from the 80's - 'Life Without George' - starring the late Simon Cadell? It ran for 3 series and was actually pretty funny, I thought.)

Oh, I've got quite a bit of that (Life Without George). Good then?

It's seemed a fairly gentle comedy, but was subtly ascerbic. Great writing and performances IMO. And Penny went on to work on 'Frasier' so she certainly knows her comedy beans.

I think you'll find it was Ian McShane, not Gregor Fisher. And it was an orang-utan. You're also wrong on the name as it was called The Light Stuff

Dan

Sorry, you're so right. Didn't Celia Imrie play their post-women? And Ian McShane's catchphrase was "I did, I did, I did. I did saw a ship!"

I believe she did. And didn't George Clooney appear in an early episode as 'Dancing, monkey boy'?

Comedy genius, that was. Cancelled after only 13 series. A travesty!

Do you mean Penny Croft? Are you an East Anglian too Tim?
