Taliban fail in Sacred Task... pity :-(

By Sky News SkyNews - 2 hours 37 minutes ago

TV presenters Ant and Dec faced the terrifying experience of coming under Taliban fire when they visited Afghanistan to present a bravery award to troops, it has emerged.

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly were waiting to catch a military flight when the Taliban shelled Kandahar airport, the Daily Mirror reported.

The duo had gone to Camp Bastion in Helmand province to present a Pride of Britain Award to the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT), who rescue injured colleagues from the front line.

Describing the rocket attack, Ant, 32, said: "It was pretty hairy - not something I'd like to experience again."

Dec, 33, said: "One minute everything was calm and the next the sirens were wailing."

Ant and Dec watched the MERT in action as a unit of doctors, nurses and paramedics boarded a helicopter and flew to the aid of troops who had been wounded in a Taliban ambush.

Ant said: "It's terrifying to think a load of British soldiers are injured a few miles from where we are now."

Dec said: "It's been an absolute privilege. We came because we were asked to give an award and we wanted to do it in person.

"After today we know there's no award that's big enough for what they go through. But we hope that the Pride of Britain award gives them at least some recognition."

Pride of Britain - in association with the Daily Mirror, the Co-operative, ITV1, GMTV and Prince's Trust - celebrates unsung heroes.

:: The ceremony takes place on Tuesday night in London and will be shown on ITV1 on October 1 at 8pm.

Damn them! :(

On the Times website this was right next to the link to the article about the cook who accidentally killed himself with his own chilli sauce.

*shakes head*

*heads over to The Times' website*

Mental.

LOL at title of this thread!

That chilli sauce story is quite disturbing.

As an old colleague of mine put it once, "To think there's people dead, and those c**ts are still alive..."

I like them. *waits for scorn of BSG*

Was that the lovely friendly Scot?

That was he.

:D

You have to like them. You're contractually obliged to as a member of the Toon Army. You and Tony Blair.

I like them until they get boring and annoying. It takes about 2 minutes, usually..
