From the news...

If this has been discussed elsewhere, my apologies, but I couldn't let this go.

From the fount of all knowledge, BSG News:

#Eric Idle stormed out of the premiere of Shrek 3 after it became apparent that the film had copied the Monty Python and the Holy Grail gag in which coconut shells are used to imitate the sound of horses' hooves. Idle is now threatening to sue Dreamworks Studios, even though he voices the character of Merlin in their new animated blockbuster.

Will Princess Anne sue Idle for ripping off her use of coconuts in the Last Goon Show of All, perhaps?

Eric is a bit of an idiot I think. He appears to be a money grabbing old git because at first he ripped off the other Pythons with his Holy Grail musical and now he thinks he has copy right over using coconuts as horse hooves. Anyone who knows about copyright, and I do, will tell him he hasn't got a case. What an idiot. Also Shrek is one of the unfunniest movies i've ever seen so anyone involved in it has it coming to them.

Ditto.

Anyway, on the original topic, has anyone seen this third film? Adam rightly points out that you can't really hold the copyright to a comedic device like that, but it all depends on the context in which it was used. Surely there would have been SFX directions in his original script, even if he hadn't heard them himself? Basically, perhaps it's a whole scene (or more) that's been ripped off, not JUST coconuts.

I've seen the third film.... i thought it was pretty good but i have a very childish mind. There were quite a few adult jokes hidden in there too.

Anyway...the scene with the coconuts is just when Prince Charming is acting in a play and he's riding a wooden horse (head on stick type) and the screen behind him is moving to give the impression he;s moving. In a glimpse bit you see some guy with coconuts making the noise. But it's not a big deal and to be honest...i think he's pathetic to walk out because half of movies made nowadays are made up of old movies!!!!!!!

Although I have watched holy grail a million times and i did make the connection between the two movies!

Am I being stupid (cue "quote this bit) or haven't coconuts been used as clippety clop sounds for - well, donkeys' years? And well before Holy Grail?

Idle? Yeah, he's a prick for acting like that.

I;d of walked out of shrek 3 but only after I'd got my 5.50 worth. Not as bad as no.2 Ginger breadman made me larff as did Eddie Murphy

I can't be arsed with any of these GCI movies, except Gavins ;)

I only liked Toy Story and that was only because I was about 9 at the time and thought it was great. Nemo is alright as well.

I saw a newspaper headline today about the Falklands War.

It read -

PARAS RETURN TO GOOSE GREEN.

I wondered if Green was a bit pissed off about that. Maybe he/she thought they'd seen the last of them.

Green sitting having a spot of tea and scone with his friend mr Sheep before a crash as the Para's come in through sky light
