Paul Jackson quits ITV

Paul Jackson has quit as ITV's director of entertainment and comedy. During his time as director, he has been in charge of comedy shows such as Benidorm and Harry Hill's TV Burp.

Story in The Guardian

Pity. On a personal level, I have a sitcom sitting with a friend of his and we were hoping to get his interest at ITV. So new commissions will be buggered now, I guess!

Hopefully he'll move to a real channel.

Balls. Jackson was one of the few people at ITV who did understand comedy (well, apart from when he let Ben Elton put out Get A Grip!).

Whatever the case - this is going to cause big ripples over at ITV. Whoever the new commissioner is will no doubt want to stamp their authority by cancelling a show (it'll probably be something on ITV2... TV Burp and Benidorm are safe thanks to their ever-growing ratings). They'll also be looking to commission something new no doubt, so perhaps another stab at an audience studio sitcom?

Peter Fincham might grab control of comedy?

Yeah, true. I mean, he did a good job at the BBC.

Yes, the man who brought us Robin Hood and the Davina McCall chatshow is just what ITV needs. ;)

Every producer has some tragedies... I mean, he also brought us Partridge and a host of other great shows.

I'm disappointed as I knew a friend of Paul Jackson's who managed to get one of my scripts read by him.

If all you're going to bring to these threads is balance and reason, then clear off! ;)
