If it turned out that God does exist.. Page 2

I like apple sized boobs. Or tiny bee sting ones are nice sometimes. :)

I'm not overly bothered - as long as they're not freaky scary sized fake dealies liked Jordan's.

If there WERE a god, his first job IMHO would be to read some classics as recommended by D. Adams esquire : 'Where God Went Wrong', 'God's Biggest Mistakes' and 'Who Is This God Person Anyway?'...

... with a view to setting a few things straight hereabouts.

He might start with the weather...

People are always having a go at god about allowing sufffering, starvation, evil etc, but the truth is, things could be a lot worse. God could actually be doing a bloody good job in difficult circumstances.

Now that is funny! Laughing out loud

Who the hell is Katey Price?

Who the hell is Katey Price?

Is that your question to God?

Who the hell is Katey Price?

Well I'm glad there's SOMEONE hasn't heard of her! Laughing out loud

Who the hell is God? There, get all philosophical about that, you buggers.

I didn't accuse you of apathy, honestly, Frankie. I had tongue firmly in cheek. :$

The problem (as Sooty points out) with blaming God for suffering is that the accuser must also deny their own free will. The true reason there's suffering in the world is because of man and his nature, and that is independent of whether there's a God or not. That 25,000 children die a day should inspire the question "Where was I?" not "Where was God?" Especially true if the person asking the question doesn't believe in a God because we can't shift the blame for actions / inactions onto a being we don't believe is there.

Touching on Sooty's DVD analogy. One of my many scribbles talks a bit (only a bit) about eternity not being the popular idea of an unending tedious sequence of time but rather the absence of time. This aspect of the multi-dimensional universe has always fascinated me. If time is the fourth dimension then our 4-D universe if viewed by a being (or beings) from higher dimensions would seem to be an unchanging constant. Everything that had, is, and will happen in our universe is forever frozen. In that respect, beings from those dimensions above time would appear to be unchanging, omniscient and omnipresent when compared to our own meagre slice of experience. So I suppose they / he / she would appear godlike in that respect.

If God does exist, surely no creature could hope to outwit him or defeat him with logic, else they'd be God. Perhaps it's because we have a popularised notion of God being a bumbling old man in white robes and beard and being a little befuddled with age. I think if faced with the reality and not the man-made straw-dog image, we'd listen than speak. Plus I think I'd cry (happy and sad tears) at the beauty, terror, and awfulness (as in awe-ful) of the sight.

If I had to speak I'd say: Thank you for my parents and my family. Thank you for birthing me into a society that's fantastically rich in comparison with history, and giving me interesting times.

just becuase he see's an event doesn't mean he can influence it.

But doesn't that suggest that God is fallible? I thought God was meant to be all-powerful, able to influence time and space like a great big holy Doctor Who?

They must deserve it.

Your continued existence disproves that. ;)

Re: infallibility is the inability to make a mistake surely? But blaming God for not interfering is assuming that:
a) he / she hasn't
b) we'd be able to tell if and when God had interfered, which confers omniscience on us
c) that our definition of what and when to interfere is better than a being's infinitely more capable of judging that issue.

And it presumes that a God exists, naturally.

Quote: Nigel Kelly @ September 17 2008, 1:36 PM BST

NIGEL: God, what's it all about?

GOD: (God takes off a mask and reveals he is John Lydon) What's it all about, they scream and then they shout. Don't ask me cos I don't know.

..and being funny, to boot!

They say a God's coming when it thunders!

Jeez!

Frankie, you're not trying to sign us up for an Alpha course are you? I've seen those posters!

Well spotted!

Rolling eyes

If it turned out that God does exist then what makes you think you would ever get the chance to say anything to him? God exists therefore he loves us, cares about us, and is extremely bothered about us doesn't follow.

I sometimes wonder if time is actually real. What if time doesn't exist at all? We're only alive in this one moment and all our memories are illusion.

Hmm, that's probably why I'm not a philosopher :P

A human life is so short in duration that time, effectively, doesn't exist. A billion 'years' is a decent amount of 'time'.
