Gallagher plans TV sitcom

Rocker Noel Gallagher has plans for his next career move - he wants to write a TV comedy.

The guitarist will team up with comedian Russell Brand to pen a sitcom when he finally retires from music.

And he insists the show would be a hit - because he and Brand are total opposites.

Gallagher says, "I'd like to be part of a team of scriptwriters. I think I'd be good. Russell has been trying to rope me into something but at the moment I can't commit to anything outside Oasis. But, one day. Who knows?"

The Wonderwall hitmaker says their best comedy could emerge from the difference between his upbringing in the north of England and Brand's childhood in the southern county of Essex.

He adds: "Russell's a big posh Essex boy former junkie who's been to the dark side and got into Hare Krishna. He's never seen a council estate.

"I'm a gruff Northerner who drinks Red Stripe. He finds that fascinating. He's all 'But Noel darling, don't you believe in a higher existence?' and I'm like, 'Not dressed in a sheet banging a tambourine, you big Jessie'."

'Whatever'.

I like Noel. Liam is a prick but Noel seems alright.

If it comes to fruition, this could potentially make for the worst sitcom ever.

Noel Gallagher is hilarious, not sure about him writing a sitcom though.

How do you know that? How do you know he hasn't got a talent for comedy writing? A little bit judgmental.

Agreed. There is a subtle but important difference between a wit and a comedy writer.

I was worried that it was this guy:

Agreed.

Anyway, it would be Russell Brand doing all the work. Noel would just sit there drinking beer and eating chips, and be his muse.

Thirded. That fan broke the wrong Gallagher's brother's ribs the other night.

I'd watch it...and I hate Oasis.
Although I have to say I don't mind Noel's solo work.

Manchester? Music? Gruff Northerner? BBC3 are gonna lap this up.

A comic in the style of Russell Brand writing a sitcom... Mmnn, anyone remember Eddie Izzard's 'Cows'?

Exactly. Brand is mostly just subconscious rambling nonsense. It may work as a presenter/standup, but not as a script.

Well, you haven't read any of his scripts yet.
