British Comedy Guide

Am I getting old? I'm worried.

I am 36 and like to think that I am a normal 30 something male who loves his music when in the car. I normally listen to a mix of rock, hip hop or Brit pop on cd or I tune to Virgin radio for the latest band music.

As a fan of comedy I decided to tune in to Radio 4 and see if I could catch any of the funny stuff there such as Hut 33 and Just a Minute to name just two. Most of the time though I catch the extended news or a debate on current affairs.

A few years ago there is NO WAY I would have even tuned into Radio 4 for anything, but now when the announcer says "and next an interview with the person responsible for trade embargo's in the middle east", I find myself going, hmm, interesting... and I actually listen to the broadcast!

What is happening to me?? What's next, renting an allotment to grow veg? Collecting Val Doonigan records, Slippers & a pipe?

Help, I think I need a 19 year old girlfriend and a Porsche 911 to address the balance!

Def.

I am also 36. Yes you are getting old. Over halfway through your three score and ten.

A bunch of male friends and I were playing a game of poker the other week. We were deep into a conversation when we realised we'd spent the last half hour talking about contemporary dance.

A short while before that I caught myself complaining to a mate at the pub about the price of organic avocados at my local grocers.

Getting older seems to involve a lot less time talking about boozing, drugging and shagging and a lot more about the house market and the price of petrol.

You're basically half dead at 36.

Remember when you were 18? Not that long ago, right?

That was half your life ago.

How old are you, David?

There is a thread somewhere on here that said everyones ages...

Yeah, but it's probably out of date now.

Coming on for 33 so I know the territory. And it sucks f**king noodles.

That is like...dead!

Def, why worry about getting older? It's not as if there's a great deal you can do about it.

And I stress 'older' rather than 'old'.

I know we all go through this but it's a load of self-indulgent piffle.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the examples you list as a sign of your ageing, with the possible exception of Virgin Radio, which is old mans piss.

As long as you're healthy and in possession of your faculties, who gives a shit about how old you are.

And 36 really is nothing. Still rather young, really.

Hee-hee; The Buss man is ancient. I'm still in my twenties and feeling dandy!

I have to admit I hate the idea of getting older. It gets me really down. I can't explain why, I guess it's cause I am so reluctant to grown up. Even in my early teens I hated getting a year older. It really depresses me.

It's the dying bit at the end that annoys me.

It is out of date, but it's completely fascinating as a historical document. Interesting to see how many posters have fallen by the wayside.
