Police Search Sketch

Just a silly little sketch I've come up with, let me know what you think, cheers.

WE SEE A LAKE, AROUND THE LAKE ARE HUNDREDS OF POLICE OFFERS. THERE ARE DIVERS ALSO SEARCHING THE LAKE. TWO POLICE OFFICERS (PC HOLLAND AND PC MATTHEWS) ARE TALKING.

PC HOLLAND
It's no good sir, we've been here for hours. There's no way the body is here.

PC MATTHEWS
No, I am certain we are close to finding the body!

PC HOLLAND
But sir, I've talked to most of the other officers and they largely agree with me that we have no chance of finding the body here! We have to move onto other leads, and quickly!

PC MATTHEWS
(SIGHS) Very well.

PC HOLLAND
I'll just go and tell the other officers that we'll be moving on shortly and to......

PC MATTHEWS
Don't say anything yet, before we move to another location I want to release my secret weapon.

PC HOLLAND
Your what?

PC MATTHEWS
My secret weapon. (WHISTLES)

THE CAMERA SHOWS A POLICE VAN. THE BACK DOOR OPENS AND A MAN JUMPS OUT, HE IS DRESSED AS AN ENGINE.

PC HOLLAND
What the bloody hell is that?

PC MATTHEWS
It's my search engine.

:D Liked it, witty.

That's very good like it, and it builds the pace to a silly punch well.

Maybe if he was dressed as Ivor the Engine and said pishty cuff?

Cheers for the feedback guys.

Sootyj - I have no idea who Ivor the Engine is, so that ending would be completely lost on me. What was Ivor the Engine?

Once again, cheers for the feedback guys.

Good sketch, but no truly good person fails to recognise Ivor the Engine.

1 minute 13 is the money shot.

lol, I apologise profusely sootyj for not knowing who Ivan the Engine was. In my defence it looks like this was made a lot longer before my time. I was only born in 1990 and this looks like it was made in the 1970's?

Now I have watched the youtube clip though, I guess your right, I could use Ivan the Engine in my sketch. Cheers for the idea sootyj.

Word fail me. I laughed. But it was the sort of laugh I would do if the Russians fired a chip shop into space.

Word fail me.

I see they failed you right there.

Hi Paul

I don't really get it. The punchline seems to have no relevance to the scene at all so, unless you're just going surreal for the sake of it, I don't think it really works.

If it was at least computer-related in some way, it would probably work better.

'Taxi's comment did make me laugh though...

Dan

Is this a sketch for posting on a forum among chums and seeing how it goes or is it for submission. If it is for submission read it again and think like a producer and see if you can see any cost implications. I am not being an arse here but do that and then see how you can re-write it so the central pun/gag might be comicallyeconomicaly viable.

You could have a man dressed like Tonto. Then he'd be your search injun.

*Watches Lone Ranger reference sail over teenager's head*

As Marc P pointed out, it could be rewritten so it's more economical, but that's quite easy.

The sketch is ok, but I think you could trim the buildup. It could be a lot snappier if shortened.

comicallyeconomicaly.

I am going to patent that expression by the way.

This is alright; quite like the idea. Agree you could change the context... but the important point is: one PC wouldn't call another PC "Sir". They are of equal rank. Make the higher-ranking one a "Sarge" or something! :D
