Did it arrive?

A few months ago I sent a couple of copies of a script out to various producers c/o the BBC. I sent a self addressed and stamped envelope with them to be put in the post once they opened it to let me know.

I have heard nothing yet and am starting to get wonder if they arrived as the address was one of many I found and I was confused. Who could I contact to find out? Is there someone I can email?

The address I sent them to was:

Producers name c/o
Light Entertainment Radio
Room 1077
Broadcasting House
Portland Place
London W1A 1AA

Room 1077, that explains it all..

Just jesting! Me, I'd ring the named Producer and demand an answer!!!

Your stamps may have been purloined by Producers for the sending of their football pools!

Otherwise I'd wait 6 months+

I sent it to writers room as well and they sent back the envelope.

It's not that I haven't been told what they think of it. It's just I haven't got the envelope back yet.

Unless it hasn't been opened yet.

I was right, they've made off with your stamps!

If that's the case I want the price of those stamps taken off my license fee!

Seriously, it's very sad that often folks never hear and have no idea what's happended to their offering.

I'm afraid, that if you sent unsolicited scripts then they may well just be ignored. This is the point of the BBC writersroom as a new writers filter. It's a shame if they don't have the inclination to acknowledge receipt, but that's just the way of the world. Your best bet is to wait and see what the writersroom say (which may well take a while yet). Also, there are some independent companies (Objective being one) which do produce stuff for Radio4/2. Again though, check whether they'll take unsolicited stuff. What you also could try is to find someone who likes your material, who knows someone well enough in Radio L/E to happily forward it with a recommendation. Best of luck.

So there's no way or no point in trying to find out what happened?

I think I'll try sending it off to some production companies. I've had my eye on baby cow for a while now.

Yes you can email them and ask did they receive it etc.
I did and they came back with a reference number saying they got thousands a year

I noticed the other day, in the info on this site, that Marc Blake will pass on scripts sent to his consultancy service to Baby Cow, if he thinks they are of good enough quality.

That's a good marketing technique!

You've waited too long. Send an email to the producer and politely ask if your script has been read yet.

And get your script sent off to other places. Balls to etiquette.

Ask them - but they will probably ignore it. They mostly do.

And send it to every bugger who'll read it.
