When I went to Thailand at the beginning of my year away travelling in Oct 06, I was blessed with good travels by a Buddhist monk and I had a piece of white string tied around my left wrist. I'm not Buddhist, but I kept it on for the whole year of travelling. It was so manky when I cut it off.
