Arthur Scargill (yes I know he's a loon) in the Guardian suggested we should start mining coal again. The technology exists to convert it to usable petrol subsitute and we've got loads.
Build a few nuclear power stations.
We could pull up the drawbridge and ignore the result of the world.
We'd have to eat a lot of farmed mackrel, soya and potatoes but it'd be worth it.
Quote: Paul W @ August 31 2008, 4:57 PM BSTI'm talking worst case here sooty, world war 3, if we pretty much had to bang down doors and drag people out, we'd have 14 million at our disposal.
France and Germany are a lot bigger, as is India.
The Indians could probably swim here, sure 99% would drown. But the rest would be a race of giant Asian Micheal Phelps with huge muscles from swimming hundreds of miles.
We'd have no chance.
