British Comedy Guide

American comedy films....lack of humour

Is it just me, or do I keep seeing trailers for American comedy films which absolutely do not make me want to go and see the film at all? Two recent examples are:

1) Adam Sandler's new film
2) That new Scary Movie-esque film called "Disaster Movie"
(There are several others too, which I can't remember the names of)

Both of these have trailers which are simply not funny at all. If the trailer doesn't make you laugh, then there's little hope of the film itself doing so. It just seems so many American comedy films these days are dire. Anyone else agree?

(Not that I'd ever go and see an Adam Sandler film anyway, because he's a complete twat with no talent except acting like a 12 year old and thinking it's funny)

On the one hand, there should be more British comedy films anyway. The only American comedy films I'd go and see at the moment would be any which feature Leslie Nielsen.

3) That new Will Ferrell one.

All films at the moment seem to be shite. So far this year, the only one I have even considered seeing is The Love Guru.

I like Sandler, and his new film is funny (if you like his other work). 'Click' was amazing, with Walkens part in it and a great performance by 'The Hoff' as his boss.

I also liked Scary Movie 1 & 2, although all the others (Date, Superhero etc) are shit.

Funny, once you get past his voice. Basically Austin Powers, with a different character.

What's wrong with the voice? Is it not realistic?

What voice is he doing?

haha He kinda wanders between Indian, American and Welsh imo. But then he does get out of it quite early by saying something about being raised in the US. A bit of a cop-out imo.

Trailer

Ah, interesting. Well, if anywhere is still showing it, I might check it out during the week. Possibly.

I couldn't stop laughing at Pineapple Express which came out a few weeks ago in America, but I've noticed lately with lots of American films that the way they try to get a laugh is to use profanity, especially with Will Ferrell's new movie "Step Brothers," which I will admit I found funny to.

"Tropic Thunder," looks good though.

Edit: Thank you Aaron.

Profanity.

I'm looking forward to Pineapple Express. Loved Superbad.

As opposed to all those hilarious British films? Went to see Step Brothers yesterday, I'm a big Will Ferrel fan but it was poor. The ad made it look pretty funny, a few pieces aside, it was not. Looking forward to Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder. And The Gervais written/directed american movie he's doing.

About lying?

About lying?

Yup. A great cast attatched. Jason 'arrested Development' Bateman and Tina '30 Rock' Fey, amongst many others; I've got a good feeling about it.

Yes, me too.
I can't wait to see it.

I hope after that though he stops being silly, comes home and does something proper. Like a TV show with Merchant.
