Patriarchy or matriarchy Page 3

Arthur Scargill (yes I know he's a loon) in the Guardian suggested we should start mining coal again. The technology exists to convert it to usable petrol subsitute and we've got loads.

Build a few nuclear power stations.

We could pull up the drawbridge and ignore the result of the world.

We'd have to eat a lot of farmed mackrel, soya and potatoes but it'd be worth it.

I'm talking worst case here sooty, world war 3, if we pretty much had to bang down doors and drag people out, we'd have 14 million at our disposal.

France and Germany are a lot bigger, as is India.

The Indians could probably swim here, sure 99% would drown. But the rest would be a race of giant Asian Micheal Phelps with huge muscles from swimming hundreds of miles.

We'd have no chance.

When I studied Economics we did a think tank sort of session and worked out at a strain we could sustain ourselves, but this would be a strain and we'd have a rather boring diet. (and it was only a 2 hour session with a teacher and an internet connection).

And as usual you're not considering other factors Sooty :P

It's not just manpower that would win a war, we have modern military technology (something India most certainly doesn't have compared to us), and Nucs we have tend to keep most of our annoying neighbours at a safe distance.

True, but we have a smaller land mass, therefore we can't rely on agriculture and sustaining ourselves as much as other countries (barely did it during the war and the population was a lot lower), but you also have to consider weather conditions as well.

Certainly true on the point of population growth. The simple fact is that we've changed what we use our land for, and would have a huge struggle to sustain ourselves now without outside help. In my personal opinion this isn't a bad thing per se, but it is sad to see. There are some things (such as certain fruits etc) which we'd never be able to cultivate or produce here in sufficient quantities, but a lot of other stuff could be home-made and home-grown to a much higher percentage.

They are however used to answering our banking enquiries at night.

It's only a small jump to invading at night when we're asleep.

But the same principle none UK companies with little regulation.

On the contrary, there's a lot of pretty fair regulation. That's what makes the City and Canary Wharf such a financial powerhouse.

On the downside, some companies and services have begun moving away, notably to Luxembourg.

More's the pity.

India's military is nothing to sneeze at. It's huge and fairly modern. They also have more nuclear warheads than the UK. :O

Thanks to those weak liberals and lefties who protest against it, no doubt!

I still think it's a bit of a Brains over brawn situation with powers such as India, I'm of course biased, but the UK has "A lot of Junk in the basement" to quote the great Rocky and if need be, we'll f**k you up good!

Ours are on giant state of the art Nuclear submarines.

Giant state of the art nuclear submarines controlled by BBC 4s Today program.

Indian military is pretty modern.

IAF beat USAF in wargames recently.

But USAF is reckoned to have lost in purpose to justify even bigger arms budgets.

Protested against what?

Lovely manly thread this, which country is tougher.

New Zealand versus Tonga?

I am incredibly lazy and slightly drunk so i haven't read the thread but if there is a war just send a few blokes from wigan. Job done.

India is building a nuclear submarine of its own. (With a built-in technical support call center.)

Let's hope it explodes then.

I believe they're also building a ladder to the moon.

Anything decent they've got they bought from Russia or Israel.

They've been half assed trying to build an aircraft carrier for years. The couple of half assed ones they've got were dumped by the Royal Navy. They apparently have a burnt Russian carrier like China does.

Russia seemed to get into the habit of setting their carriers on fire.

No, they're sending a spacecraft to the moon. And my company is supporting the launch.
