Garry Glitter's American fanbase Page 2

Was a big fan of his in early 1970s, now I'm 94 can't stick the c**t!

Fair enough.

My dad is 91 and he's never heard of Gary Glitter, even now!

I was listening to a US radio show the other day and they mentioned Gary Glitter.

He's always been extremely scary.

Let's seperate out the man from his music.

I don't equate one with the other.

He did a few good tracks and was part of the 80's glam rock thing.

Now he's (allegedly?) a paedophile and has been sentenced and has served his time.

I doubt he'll make the UK top twenty again..

In the US, he might well do! But they are yanks, after all and in that wunnerful land, anything is possible!

Didn't like his music either. Plus he's always been a weirdo.

As is Jimmy Saville.
One day, we will be hearing about him too. Allegedly... :)

I always hated Saville, Glitter, and Jonathan King, I only have one left on my list now!

King did do that excellent track a few months ago though! I found myself suddenly singing it in the shower yesterday. Which was particularly odd, as I don't generally sing in the shower.

Anyway.

I never knew they were any 'issues' about Saville. Not a big fan, but he did well on Top of The Pops.

Glitter's Another Rock & Roll Christmas is a staple of my festive music diet. Excellent track!

King is a great pop singer and writer, his Vile Pervert album is infuriatingly addictive.

The crimes he commited are of a far lesser nature than Glitter's.

Both of them could make a very strong case for unfair trials.

If there was anything on Saville it would have come out by now.

Is it such a shock if some people just aren't interested in sex?

YES!

'Do you wanna be in my gang' is the track I recall. Didn't like it much but it was a big hit.

Glitter always seemed like a jumped up wannabe to me, but he made it to the top for awhile.

I never liked the look of him.

Glitter's conviction (outside of the UK) was a total joke. Not one bit of it stands up. And what he did admit to having done would have been perfectly legal in the UK, as their legal ages are higher than ours.

Like, totally ridic.

I must listen to the rest of Vile Pervert.

Laughing out loud

He's never been anything close to a star here in the States. Nobody would recognize his face and the only people who would recognize his name are the ones who've read about his pedophilia convictions. I doubt one in a thousand would be able to match his name to his music. Most people are familiar with that "Rock and Roll" song, but only the 10-second snippet that gets played over the loudspeakers at sporting events.

I don't think I've ever heard any of his work and I've listened to a LOT of music. I did see him on stage with The Who when they performed "Quadrophenia" at Madison Square Garden in 1996. Glitter was lousy, but Billy Idol did a good job and Phil Daniels was great.

Fair comment. But after Ronald Reagan made President I started to think Popeye could be Pope if the Vatican were in Detroit!
