Taxi

Just watched one of these on Paramount this morning and I'd forgotten how good they were.

I have laughed out loud at least 6 times inside 15 minutes.

Excellent

Love the theme tune, has the same effect as Cheers. :)

Yeah, Taxi's really good; Lois (Danny DeVito)is my favourite character. Judd Hursch, who plays Alex, played John in the US version of Dear John.

Agree about the theme tune. I have three series sitting on my bookshelf and will take my time watching them. I've seen two or three before and loved them.

I watched repeats when I was little. Don't really remember it much though.

I was really surprised when I found out that the 'weird one' had actually been Andy Kaufman.

Wasn't really impressed with Man on the Moon. To me, he was a bit of an overated nobody. Danny DeVito is way funnier.

IIRC, there were a few actors came up through Taxi

Christopher Lloyd? The chap who played Jeff Goldblum's old man in Independence Day? Judd Hirsch, Tony Danza

It's one of the first sitcoms I can remember seeing - that and Happy Days

I always liked this as a nipper, but then I watched a few episodes from Season 1 last year and though it was a bit "Meh!".

However, I decided to give it a second chance and bought season 1 today. It was a fine £15 spent as it's damn funny. I can only assume I was on smack at some point last year.

Has anyone ever seen (I haven't) the episode(s?) of Taxi where Andy Kaufmann appeared as Tony Clifton (as referenced in 'Man On The Moon')? Was, in fact, a Tony Clifton episode ever aired?

I heard that Tony Clifton turned up on set, tried to start a fight and was escorted out by Paramount security.

Isn't he the guy dressed as a bird...? :)

This was a genuinely great series much underrated - The Reverend Jim "Iggy" Ignatowski as a prototype Kramer anyone?

Jim: "What does a yellow light mean...?"

The start of one of the great exchanges in a comedy episode....

That rings a bell. And though I can't quite remember how it went I remember laughing it.

I am finding though, as I finished Season 1 and go onto Season 2 that the writing dialogue is too long and not terribly funny, especially Louie. I think they overdo him when they could have given the others a bit more. I enjoy watching the show, but there were episodes early on, with the boxer's fight, and the one with Alex's fat girl that had real snap. A lot of them don't seem to have that.

I was just watching some season 1 and Tom Selleck pops up in one episode.
