Doctor Who... Page 193

I tell you what I love, Silver Nemesis. Not for the storyline, but for the comedy. The 17th century everyman - Richard - being terrified by llamas, the cybermen listening to Jazz and the skinheads who attempt to mug Lady Peinfold.

The problem with that Jo Grant picture is that the poor quality jpeg makes her look about 70 in the face.

I liked Delta Bannerman, don't know why.

Bloody stupid story about holiday camp full of men with banners.

Why does every one assume it's Jo I'm after.

It's that Dalek, phwwoor!

I'm all for an updated Dr Who as it was my favourite TV program ever.

I just don't like the way they've done it, EXCEPT for B Piper who made a good 'assistant' I felt (from the bits I've seen).

I wish they had made the show 'darker'.. and NOT resurrected the daleks. There was no way that could be done effectively. I guess they just didn't have the imagination NOT to. Or they could have resurrected 'the spirit' of the daleks in some way, but to have those tin pot monsters back was a mistake. First time around and throughout the '60's the daleks were brilliant, but not now.

Shallow 'noughties' TV wins again! :(

How much of it have you actually watched?

P.S. 3000+ posts on the Dr Who thread!

I think I watched all of the first episode with Tennent and then bits of the next 4 or 5 eps. I mostly gave up after that. I have seen the odd 10 mins here and there since then. I have not seen Eccleston in it. I didn't like style, it's too glossy and I didn't like the special effects.

I think it could have been so much more and I would have resurrected it as a post-watershed show for adults (that's over 9's) and much scarier. Tennent was OK and could have carried it off in my version but his hair would have got dirtier, although he would not have been my first choice for doctor. I would have had a female doctor anyway I think. Or possibly an animal. Certainly he/she/it would have been a chameleon. INTERESTINGLY, Gary Glitter is back on the scene and may be available. Now he'd be scary-ish!

;)

Well, to be fair, Frankie. If you haven't watched much of it since it's been back, how can you say it hasn't been dark enough?

It could have been all sorts of things, and you wouldn't have a clue!

It has been dark, so you've missed out, buddy.

I've had well enough of the bloody daleks though, and the flipping cybermen. But the new boss for next series says they won't be using old monsters anymore, so that's a massive plus.

Well, I'll give the next series a try on your recommendation. But I have found the bits I have seen not dark enough for my taste. It just did not satisfy my expectation. I have watched enough to know that! Also, a show should draw you in, simply it didn't. I wanted it to! :)

Frankie, I'd recommend looking at "Dalek" from the first series of "New Who". I reckon it knocks every other Dalek story before or since into the proverbial hat. Since then there have been diminishing returns with the name monsters, but there have still been great stories in each series - some of the darkest (and best) stuff in Who history.

Maybe I will revisit it then. Perhaps I was put off for some reason unbeknownst to myself. Perhaps it would have been impossible to satisfy me as I was brought up on the original series.

But all the fuss about the Dalek climbing stairs bleeurrghh.

Dalek did it so much classier.

Making as much sense as ever, I see.

The Cyberman always have and always will be shit.

Damn you italics!
(that I was referring to the episode should have been obvious to all but the most Borg like of grammaticians)

Just watching a bit of Dr Who with Tom Baker.

Some quality wandering around Tardis corridors and even got to see Romana's bedroom.

Oh and how the Chameleon circuit works on an old BBC Micro.

Geeker joy.

Oh how I long for all that sort of thing in the new series.
Moffat, will you be the one?

Yes I want to see in the following order.

1 TARDIS Bathroom
2 Dressing up room.
3 TARDIS Library.
4 TARDIS Kitchen.
5 Armoury (no doubt full of rubbish)
6 Big computer room full of spinning paper tape decks and flashing lights.
7 TARDIS arcade and games room.
8 TARDIS toilet
9 Kinky sex dungeon, including inflatable Dalek and Murka.

And David Tennant's bedroom.

Sooty, are you discussing The Invasion of Time?

I thought they overplayed the vast size of the Tardis in that.
