Try www.engadget.com for gadget inspiration. I remember a few months back there was an article link to some pretty pointless gadgets. Found a USB storage device that's mean to deter ghosts http://www.engadget.com/2005/04/02/usb-ghost-detector/ . Dunno about lawsuits though if you use an actual product.
On the main page at the moment is a robot called "Johnny 5" - I loved Short Circuit!
Will try and come up with one. Something to do with Betamax, perhaps. Could google "chindogu," a Japanese term for useless inventions which nevertheless have some inherent charm.
How about the Dog-Watch - multiplies each second by 7 (this is an actual invention according to a lecture on Intellectual Property)? Or the Dog Walkman?
