Didn't he say he was going to quit writing five years ago? But he's still knocking out books.

Quote: Griff @ August 22 2008, 11:12 AM BSTStephen King is rubbish. He's like the Jeffrey Archer of horror. Although bizarrely his book On Writing is terrific. I think he knows how to write, but doesn't bother trying.
That's the Griff I know and love. Beligerant, bad tempered and wrong about everything.
Griff have you read his old stuff? It's f**king amazing.
True, he hasn't been anywhere near as great recently, but any of his next books could be awesome. (I'm a glass half full type person.)

Cell was quite recent and I thought that was great, a real throwback to his early days. Plus I think Eli "Hostel" Wroth is making it into a film.

I actually make sure I fill my posts with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and ill-formed opinions just to keep you lot on your toes.
Ooh, you're right, I liked Cell too.
I forgot all about that one.

He's written alot of exeptional stuff; Pet Semetary, Carrie, Bag of Bones.
But round about the Dark Half he hit that point when people stopped editing him.
Same with Tom Clancy, J K Rowling.
He is infinitely superior to Archer(whose prison journals in their bland, unimaginatvenss are quite fascinating).
Duma Key, Insomnia, Rose Madder are pretty much unreadable.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is ace.
n.b. if you liked On Writing, did you ever read On Writing?
Quote: EllieJP @ August 22 2008, 11:05 AM BST'cause recently you've made tonnes of new threads which makes more work for me...the anticipation of more work scares me. Sorry, it's not you yourself. Yuo know I love you!
I will devout my time to creating one uber, stupid thread. A stupid thread of such malign pointlesness all other stupid threads will bow before it.
One stupd thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them!
Mu ha ha!

Cell was a turbo charged, mindless rebel yell of a book.
Way fun and that astonishing first sequence.
The thing King does best is the really big stuff, like killing every one in the first half of the Stand.
He is also at times very, very funny. The Body is hilarious, Diferent Seasons is probably one of my best reads of all time.

Why don't you quit being a moderator and become one of the cool kids who just pop in and chat. Like me.
Quote: Griff @ August 22 2008, 11:25 AM BSTAs usual your question makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Please explain.
As ever my short span of attention makes a dick of me.
Sorry.
I meant Danse Macabre.
It's a prequel and genius, I think he was also pissed when he wrote it.
So some stuff is very funny.

Quote: Griff @ August 22 2008, 11:33 AM BSTHmmm, (checks Amazon) ... Danse Macabre looks like a discussion of horror in particular, rather than writing in general. Horror is my least favourite writing genre. I don't think there has ever been a good horror book written.
The Turn Of The Screw. Anything by Edgar Allen Poe. Frankenstein. Dracula. Dr Jekyll and Mister Hyde...

The dark is fun.

Quite.
Anything to declare?
