I'm ashamed to say I don't get Page 3

Brass Eye.

Really?

Aaron!

I'm confused as to whether this thread is just 'comedy we don't like' or comedy we actually don't get. And what the difference is. Basically, I shouldn't have posted on it...

I think the difference is that if you don't "get" something, you don't understand why it's funny. Whereas if you don't find it funny, then it's just not to your personal taste. Or something?

It's more like comedy that you think every body else likes but you feel a bit guilty you don't.

You know every one laughs at Peep Show, but you think it's about a couple of 30 something losers doing dull stuff.

It's easy to dislike stuff thats unpopular.

Do we really feel guilty about any of it though?

Are but Aaron we can't all have your iron willed determinism.

Not liking say the Boosh in a trendy flatshare, is like being gay in the Bible Belt.

You don't know if there's something wrong with you or with everybody else.

Ha ha.

I voiced the view in my village pub once that Morecambe & Wise weren't really all that and I was nearly lynched.

A sketch if ever there was one.

P.S. Early Dibley was ace. All of The Thin Blue Line was fantastic.

I thought the last series actually were the best. I mean, Winter episode (with Nativity play) alone!
The Thin Blue Line was great. Not fantastic, but great. Both series.

I've seen a few fairly amusing episodes of The Thin Blue Line.

I'm not fond of 'Allo 'Allo!, or Dad's Army, and quite a few other 60s/70s sitcoms to be honest. They never 'grab' me enough to want to watch an entire episode.

Don't get Nathan Barley. Watched one episode and really wondered what the fuss was all about.

Yes, there are some good ones. But for all round consistency, the earlier episodes are superior IMO.

I feel much the same about the final 3 or 4 episodes as everyone else thinks of post-1996 Only Fools And Horses.

Yep, cos the Richard Curtis who wrote The Thin Blue Line was called Ben Elton. I'm thinking that the Richard Curtis who wrote Blackadder can't be the same one who wrote The Vicar Of Dibley.

Oh! That Richard Curtis

Anyway, it is tragic that both Elton and Curtis did not die in a motor bike accident after completing Blackadder.

But I understand these sort of shows and what makes them "funny". And some other mentioned, such as Last of the Summer Wine and Ab Fab, are once decent shows that outlived their useful life

Ones that I just don't get:

Flight of The Conchords
Nathan Barley
League of Gentlemen
Little Britain
The Mighty Boosh

And I think you have to be American to get Seinfield in the same way that you have to be British to get Hancock

Ooo I'll add Flight of The Conchords to my list. Why do people like it?!?!

Whoever said we shouldn't confuse not getting something with not liking it got it spot on.

I saw an episode of Boosh a while back. No way did I get it, there are some programmes you sit and watch and you KNOW you're not getting the nth part of it. But I did belly laugh copiously and annoyed the neighbours...

I love women but of course I don't "get" them (understand them that is, not pull...oh all right then, neither)
