I'm ashamed to say I don't get Page 2

I shall also add Absolutely Fabulous to my list.

I always think The Vicar Of Dibley must have been written by a sitcom-generating program. It's got all the correct elements, but no decent gags.

And Father Ted's imbecile character is much better than Dibley's.

I definitely don't get The Vicar Of Dibley, I'm convinced it must be written by a different Richard Curtis.

To the one who wrote The Thin Blue Line?

Yeah, I'll add Absolutely Fabulous to the list too.

Dan

So is the Ben Elton who wrote Blackadders 2,3 and 4 the same chap who wrote The Thin Blue Line?

I'm beginning to think Elton and Curtis were scratched by a radioactive shit sitcom writer in 1990.

Elvis Presley, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan.

Have to say I didn't get Saxondale or Help.

Their transformation is unbelievable, isn't it. I've never sat through it but a number of people whose opinions I trust assure me that We Will Rock You is not only the worst script ever written but the worst script it would be possible to write.

My girlfriend agrees with that. I didn't think it was *that* bad, but wouldn't watch it again.

Dan

Never got the League of Gentleman, but I'm not ashamed about that. Horrible fan-boy wank.

Also, Shooting Stars(waste of Reeves and Mortimer) and early Fast Show.

Yep, cos the Richard Curtis who wrote The Thin Blue Line was called Ben Elton. I'm thinking that the Richard Curtis who wrote Blackadder can't be the same one who wrote The Vicar Of Dibley.

Isn't it ultimately heartening, especially for us writers, that lightning doesn't strike twice that often? Otherwise these old warhorses would still be getting new shows commissioned and new blood wouldn't get a chance.

Also, Richard Curtis has had a pretty decent film career, so he hasn't gone into the same career tailspin as Ben Elton, who was last seen grooming Alexa Chung on ITV1.

The Thin Blue Line and Vicar of Dibley were still successful in the ratings. They just weren't critical hits.

To be honest I thought the fourth series of Peep Show was pretty poor.

I love The League Of Gentlemen.

Although they could have stopped at Series 2. Series 3 never really gelled for me, and the film was dire.

The League of Gentleman. Saxondale. I shall add them both to my list. But I'm not "ashamed" to have not got any of them. Oh, and probably most of the rest of the 90s comedy scene. I'm still working my way through the 70s.

P.S. Early Dibley was ace. All of The Thin Blue Line was fantastic.

Little Miss Jocelyn, Tittybangbang & The Catherine Tate Show.

Neil Young & any Pete Doherty band.

I love The League Of Gentlemen.

Me too. Series 3 just as much as the other two.

I'm confused as to whether this thread is just 'comedy we don't like' or comedy we actually don't get. And what the difference is. Basically, I shouldn't have posted on it...
