SPOILERS: Twists, shocks and jaw-dropping moments?

I was discussing films with twists the other day with a friend, and I was wondering what people think the best ones are. Or if there are any slightly lesser known films with big twists in? I guess my favourite would be, boringly, The Usual Suspects. When I first saw that I had no idea Kevin Spacey was Keyser Sosey and it came as quite a shock.

I'm also a fan of genuinely shocking moments in films, which you really aren't expecting. For example, towards the end of To Live and Die in LA, the lead character (played by the CSI chap) gets shot and killed in a spectacularly pointless way. It really is shocking. Any others?

Rather annoyingly someone had written "the flid did it" with an arrow pointing to Kevin Spacey on all the posters on the central line underground trains while that was still in the cinema.

I certainly didn't see the shower of XXXXX coming at the end of Magnolia.

That was excellent. Mind you, the opening is pretty damned spectacular with the guy jumping off a building and getting shot by his own mom on the way down.

The best twist of all time has to be at the end of The Village.

Don't you feel with M. Night Shimmysham that his films are all built around that big twist, though? So you spend the entire film trying to work it out rather than just enjoying it. But I agree, it is a nice payoff in The Village.

Right mega spoiler for all M Night Shymalin movies twists.

Anyway - I didn't guess that Bruce Willis was really an Alien at the end of 6th Sense.

Prince Adam is He man and is secretly in love with Skeletor, who only loves He man.

Bambi was adopted.

Forest Gump actually is a serial killer and it's the police he's waiting for at the bus stop.

ET was Elliott's dad all along.

Village, Lady in the Water, The Event.

6th Sense, Unbreakable, Signs good films but utterly predictable.

I think Shimalayan was pretty good until Lady in the Water. His last two films have been pants, but he's pretty decent before that.

I thought The Village was rubbish. The Sixth Sense on the other hand was great. Never saw the twist until just before it was revealed. Most other M Night Shymalin film twists are rubbish too (Unbreakable, Lady in the water & The Happening). Se7en had a good twist, as does Donnie Darko.
