Survivors

I don't know how many of you will remember this or have head of it. It was a 70s sci-fi drama series set in a post-plague world of the future. It was one of my favourite TV programmes of all time.

A new series is currently being made. The man in charge is Adrian Hodges - who was inbolved with Primeval plus many other things and features among others Frema whatshername and Julie Graham.

Basically I can't wait - and I've got a story line for it which I've had for neatly 20 years. I hope it goes to a second series.

It'll be shit.

Terry Nation darkness, they had an episode where they hung a learning disabled guy for rape. He was innocent.

I remember that one. If i recall correctly the real rapist was Mr. Cheeseman from Dad's Army.

My other recollection of the show was that Carolyn Seymour and Lucy Fleming were both highly knobby.

Several episodes are really harrowing stuff, and very unpredictable. Suddenly out of the blue they'll kill off one of the characters or do something shocking.

The remake appears to indicate that you have a good chance of surviving the plague if you are from an ethnic minority!

And, of course, in the original you had a good chance of surviving if you were white.

The old show was white middle class types versus evil working class survivors.

I say a common types stealing our cabbages!

And executing disabled people.

Knobby?

Where I come from, that means they are knobs, i.e. twats.

I'm not sure he means that...

I think he means knob-able.

Knobby?

Is that not yet in common use then? Anyway I think it self-explanatory in context. Everyone fancied Carolyn Seymour, but Lucy Fleming always did it for me.

You're taking things out of context. It was white because the majority of TV was white then.

To my memory disable people were not execited - not by the main charcters and if they were it would have been because basically they'd committed some crime - not because they were disabled. Maybe the rival commuinity run along Dictatorial lines may have done so.

Basically it was good, original, believable storylines.

There was NO middle class v working class. Everyone was reduced to the same level and everyone had to work to survive.

And yes - most definitely.

That was about the most famous storyline and best episode.

That was mentioned by most of the actors in a documentary on the program, there's actually a whole school of middle class appocalypse dramaa. Most famously starting with John Wyndam.

And yes - most definitely.

Not totally up to date but relevant methinks.

Anyway - alongside Auf Weudersehn, Minder and Cold Feet this was my favourite TV programme of all time.

Oh well - it starts this sunday and I'll give it go.

It does look very PC though!
