Wish me luck!

Writing's what I love doing and want to make a career out of it. However watching the Beijing Olympics reminded me of something I used to do and want to take up again. Ive never mentioned this on here because Ive never needed to but I am in a wheelchair. At school I used to participate in wheelchair racing and was quite good at it and was being trained by a sports guy. Due to exam pressure I dropped it but now after 5 years want to pick it up again. Im trying to get in contact with the guy again to see if he can help me as eventually I would love to compete in races and eventually the paralympics (in case you didnt know thats olympics for disabled people). Writing and sports are a world apart mainly because with writing actors get the recognition and not the writers and as I want to be a role model for disabled people as I know what its like to hit rock bottom and then bring yourself back up sports is a good opportunity.

Anyway Im just thinking out loud, it might not happen and thats why I havent said anything on my blog and even if it did happen I an always take up writing again once my sports career is over, Im only 19 after all.

I dont know why I posted this but like I said Im just thinking out loud and Ive gotten to know some people on here who may want to know why I dont come on as much as I used to. Ill keep you guys informed, wish me luck.

P.S. This years paralympics start on the 7th September in Beijing.

Thanks for sharing Zuhaib. We certainly will want updates on how you're getting on and good luck!!! :)

You really haven't got long then. Get out there and start training!

;) Only messing, good luck! That British lass who won the cycling today only started two years before the Olympics, so it can be done.

Hey Zubaib,

I don't really know you too well on the forum, but I think I speak for everyone, when I say good luck with your training and I hope to see you competing within a few years time!

I too am 19 but I can't run, I'm not disabled I'm just bone idle.

Again good luck mate!

Good for you and best of luck, from a fellow wheelchair user. :D

Thanks guys, I googled that sports guy and found out that he's competed in the paralympics before and I didnt know that last time I trained with him. Maybe he was shy? lol. Anyway thanks for the support. :)

Nice one Zuhaib, hope it all works out.
With the muscles you'll have on your arms at the end of it you could probably turn to arm wrestling if it doesn't :)
I wish you lots of luck!

Yeah, good luck.

I think Zuhaib should be banned from the forum for his own good, otherwise he'll never do any training...

...till after the Paralympics...

Go out there and give it your best!

Wow, yep, good luck!

Bloody sports. Waste of time, if you ask me... :P

Wow indeed! Very much luck, and some brownies for when you're not in training!

thanks once again. you know reading my post again a few hours after i posted it makes it seem kind of unreal. right now im just trying to find the sports guy again. i couldnt exactly remember his name and wasnt sure it was the right one when i googled it but then i went and looked at an autograph i got from him and it was the same name. at the time i thought he was just a coach not someone who had competed in the paralympics. i was the only person to ask for his autograph that day 6 years ago.... talk about irony.

If Google couldn't help then I'm affraid no one can.

Im not losing hope yet, he's a friend of one of my former teachers so once the holidays are over i can get in touch with him again and even if i cant he's not the only trainer out there. :)
