Attempt at smashing two themes together

FOCUSED ON TWO COMMENTATORS, SEATED, WITH MICROPHONES. REFLECTIONS IN THE GLASS OF FLASHES, ACCOUMPANIED BY GUNFIRE.

COMMENTATOR 1:
This shooting event is really hotting up in the final. There's certainly no love lost between the two countries is there Dave?

COMM 2:
That's right, Brian. In fact, we haven't seen such rivalry since the US and Russia, since the US and Japan, since the US and…

COMM 1:
I don't think we've ever seen rivalry like this, Dave, they're shooting at EACH OTHER! With tanks. (PAUSE) Dave, are you SURE we're at the Olympics?

COMM 2:
Olympics? Nah, we've been reassigned the Russia-Georgia conflict. Sorry, must've forgotten to mention it.

COMM 1:
Oh dear lord! I've got to get out of here! RUNS OFF

COMM 2:
He's pacing himself well, he's covered 100m in a new War Record, now he's hurdled the barbed wire beautifully, that trailing leg followed through magnificently, now onto the freestyle swim through the muddy bog and then all that's left is to vault the border…

I like this one it's an oldish joke doing Olympic commentators commenting on the wrong thing.

The guy suddenly realising he's not at the olympics is a nice surreal twist.

Very funny!

May I take a liberty?

COMM 2:

It's funny, but then we're back to Fawlty Towers - I'm not sure it works in this context.

The phrase 'Don't mention the war' existed long before Fawlty Towers.

If it were a phrase such as 'Don't tell him Pike' which is UNIQUE to 'Dads Army', I would agree with you.

The original meaning was that the guy just didn't know he'd been reassigned. Saying "the war" rather than "it" implies he didn't know about the war at all, in my head at least.

In your head be it.

Having reread it again, I see what you might mean. How about:

COMM 2:
Olympics? Nah, we've been reassigned the Russia-Georgia conflict. Sorry, must've forgotten to mention the war.

COMM 1:
A war?! Oh dear lord! I've got to get out of here! RUNS OFF

Nice one!

Sorry I doubted you :$

Sorry I doubted you :$

Not at all Rob0.

'To doubt is to think'

'To think is not being able to thwim'

So what's a think-tank? More to the point, what's a tank think? CAN a tank think?

These questions and more will be answered in the next edition of 'WTF?' Good night.

Laughing out loud

Btw Rob will suffice

Laughing out loud

I tend to get carried away - or should be.
