I think Russell is funny.
But without Frankie as a regular it could be boring. So that idea doesn't make sense.

Quote: Timbo @ August 15 2008, 11:07 AM BSTOf the regular guests, only the always excellent David Mitchell really do anything to raise the standard.
Which is the same act he always brings to every show he's on. It's getting old - which, incidentially, so am I. Now then, back in the 70's....
Blimey. I don't get the Howard hate! He's very funny.
Well last night's was the first I've enjoyed I must say, and I really enjoyed it!
I think it must've been the presence of Mitchell. He was great - probably rubbed off on everyone else, forced them to up the standard.
Boyle had a corker as well. "Half an hour - that gives em just enough time to wriggle free"
Quote: Baumski @ August 15 2008, 10:12 AM BST'Mock the Week' - good programme, very funny and always hits the mark but, and it's something that's been bugging me for a while, the panalists on 'MTW' are now part of the new comedy elite that are always popping up on other comedy panel shows like 'Would I Lie To You' and the like. It really does put me in mind of the 70's when it was always Jimmy Tarbuck and his gang that were the comedy diet of the day whether you liked it or not.
I agree with you there. I love Mock The Week but they have guests on so many times - David Mitchell and Ed Byrne are two that spring to mind that are on about three times every series (I'm sure there are others too that I can't remember at this point). Michael Macintyre has been on this series twice already as well I think? I don't mind too much because they are funny, but I would like to see them try other new comedians.
Mitchell? I don't recall him having been on it at all previously.
He's on loads now. He didn't used to be.

He's been on 12 times now! And, if the schedule is to be believed, he's on next week too.
Hurray!
Actually, I've just looked into it, Mitchell is now Mock the Week's most regular guest. Here's the other contenders...
Ed Byrne (11)
Gina Yashere (10)
Mark Watson (10)
Jo Brand (9)
John Oliver (9)
John Oliver hasn't been on for a while. He's ace.
I'll echo the comments above - last night's episode was fantastic. Best to ages - loads of great lines.
For me, Frankie Boyle puts in the very best of them, note how they always have to pause for the audience to stop laughing after he's been up the mic. I'm also on Mitchell's side, not sure what the other posters are talking about - his rants are always fantastic (he does them to perfection on Would I Lie To You? - e.g. that Rooney rant the other week)

He was in most of the episodes of the first couple of series and probably would have become a team captain if he hadn't disappeared (think he's gone to America now to star on The Daily Show?)

Really?! I honestly don't remember him having ever been on it.

Yup, according to my records he's been in s1e4, s1e5, s1e6, s2e3, s2e4, s2e7, s4e1, s4e6, s5e5, s5e7, s5e12, s6e6 and will be in s6e7.
Blimey. I knew I had a bad memory...
