But I'll forget it's there!
I'd have to make a list of where everything was and stick it next to my monitor. So I may as well just keep them as icons.

I see your point! Would kind of defeat the point of having a computer if you needed a filing cabinet to list your file locations :)

Plus take note its not in ridiculous XP mode with resource draining bubbly menus.

I try to avoid PCs as much as possible these days, but the first thing I do when I get behind one is turn on the classic settings and get rid of all the flashy stuff.

"That's no desktop"

My Mac desktop is not very interesting I'm afraid, but it does 'mellow me out' (or is that the drugs?). And my PC desktop is far to saucy to post. ;)

I regularly sweep all my desktop crap into a folder called "Old Desktop Crap." A few months later I do it again and before you know it I have "Old Desktop Crap" folders inside of "Old Desktop Crap" folders inside of "Old Desktop Crap" folders. Then I run out of disk space or buy a new computer and back everything up onto an external hard drive. At last count I had 12 drives knocking around my closet with 15 years' worth of files that I just can't seem to throw out, yet sorting through them is more agony than I can withstand. So they just sit there and taunt me.

Aw! Nil has a folder called Ricky Gervais!

I have one called Ricky too.
Some of my folders have very rubbish names, I've just realised.
'Stuff' and 'Yay' and 'Blah'.

It's full of his Pod Casts. Seemed like the obvious title. No?

I have a 'Stuff' folder on my PC. :)

But could zooo not just stick 'em all in My Documents?

You know, the thing that can be seen through all the programs.

Everything of mine gets properly named. All 'root' folders are "My...". For example, "My TV" for storing, err, recordings, "My Programs" for programs that I've downloaded, "My eBooks", "My Stuff" (no idea what's in that one - should I look?), and "My Sites" for all web dev stuff.

All files and folders on my computer have strict naming conventions, damnit! Even my Start menu is nicely categorised and ordered cleanly. :)

Nooo, the actual screen size looks quite small. (Not image size, but like, it feels small from the ratio of Start bar height to the rest of the image.)

That makes no sense outside of my head.

I'm going to take photos for the two threads tomorrow, when my parents are off "working".
