Sadly, if I can't see everything I need at a glance, I forget to do things. So everything important gets saved on to my desktop.
I know, I realise it's probably actually just me, since everyone I know makes me go "arrgggggghhhh, your desktop!"
I don't think this is a good reflection on my personality though. Boring, bland unoriginal desktop picture - nothing there, like an empty wilderness. Crumbs! 
Anyway, I just hope you don't keep all the rudey pictures you have on your desktop for poor mummy zooo to see!! She'd go blind!

I'm with Ian on this one. I like things to be neat and tidy. Plus, the only time I ever see my desktop is on the very rare occasion when I restart my computer, and no programs have started yet.
