SKETCH Cleanliness in next to Godliness.

Not sure if this is a sketch or what. Probably more part of a prison sitcom.

SCENE. INT. PRISON GUARDS OFFICE

OFFICER POLLOCK IS CLEANING A ROW OF SECURITY MONITORS THAT DEPICT THE VARIOUS PARTS OF THE PRISON. HE IS WEARING AN APRON. ANOTHER PRISON OFFICER, STUART, IS MAKING A CUP OF COFFEE IN THE KITCHEN AREA.

STUART BRINGS HIS COFFEE OVER TO THE MONITORS AND PUTS IT DOWN ON THE WORK SURFACE.

POLLOCK:
Don’t do that! I’ve just cleaned that!

STUART IGNORES POLLOCK’S PLEA AND SITS AT HIS STATION, WATCHING THE MONITORS.
POLLOCK SHAKES HIS HEAD IN DISGUST.

STUART:
Where am I supposed to put it then?

POLLOCK:
In the bin.

STUART:
What? You’re being ridiculous!

POLLOCK:
Cleanliness in next to Godliness.

STUART:
You’ve been watching too much How Clean is Your House.

POLLOCK:
Don’t disrespect Kim and Aggie.

POLLOCK MOVES OVER TO A 'HOW CLEAN IS YOUR HOUSE' CALENDAR THAT HANGS ON THE WALL AND BEGINS TO DUST IT.

STUART:
So what do you make of the new bird in the East Wing?

POLLOCK:
She’s nice. Very lovely.

STUART:
Oh yeah I forgot. You like cock don’t you?

POLLOCK:
You don’t know anything about me. For all you know, I could be happily married.

STUART:
You’re married all right. To Kim and Aggie.

POLLOCK:
(ANGRY) Kim and Aggie have cleaned up the nation. Knives have been replaced with brushes, guns with sponges…

STUART:
So that’s the government’s secret weapon against crime is it? Kim and Aggie?

POLLOCK:
Well, crime has gone down in recent years.

STUART:
Yeah. Because criminals now know better how to clean up the evidence!
Sponges haven’t replaced knives, they’ve just been used to mop up the blood! Kim and Aggie are Britain’s number one accessory to murder!

POLLOCK IS OUTRAGED. HE SPRAYS STUART WITH SOME CLEANING SPRAY AND BASHES HIM IN THE FACE WITH A DUSTER.

POLLOCK:
Wash your mouth out!

Nice little sketch there. I want Stuart to say when he is looking at the calender "Yes its got Pollocks written all over it"

Well done.

Nice. I cand efinately see this working on screen, though whether as a sketch i don't know. It does appear more like a scene in a sitcom. However, you can achieve the same effect if you do a series of these. Stuart the blokish one and Pollock the slightly weird, confused one. Next, maybe a fitting tribute to Gok Wan.

I'm gonig to ask you a question now with nothing to do with this sketch, are you the real Greg Scott or just a fan?

lol charley... Thanks for the comments guys. I think it is a good idea for it to be a running sketch.

lol Walker. alas no, I am not thee Greg Scott. Just a fan. People do call me Greggles though.

Greggles: 'We are looking for professions beginning with S'

Caller: 'Psychologist'

Greggle: 'Is Psychologist there?'

'It's not there I'm afraid'

'just to remind viewers. We are looking for prefessions beginning with S'

Caller 2: 'Psychiatrist'

Lol. Who's Greg Scott?

Greg Scott is a host of Quizmania. He, along with Debbie King, are the only reasons ever to watch such an aweful show.

Oh those ITV quiz things, I remember that. Was he the fat bloke with the glasses?

lol yes thats me.

TV has never been the same since Quizmania was replaced by the Mint. TV has clearly taken a nose dive in quality. Not like the good old days of Quizmania.

Lol. Oh good sketch by the way.

Quite enjoyed this Greggles but just felt that overall there was something missing. But what? Not sure. The pay-off din't feel strong enough but the situation and writing were both good.

And one very small point. Stuart's last speech seems a bit clunky to me. I would perhaps think of changing the order of the words from:

Yeah. Because criminals now know better how to clean up the evidence!

To:

Yeah. Because criminals know how to clean up the evidence better now!

Not saying one is right or one is wrong it's just a rhythm thing.

I wasn't sure about it. Maybe I didn't read it right.

Incidentally did you know that Gok Wan is an anagram of "Go wank"?

thanks for the comments guys. I think it would work best as part of something longer I guess.

Debbie King was just irritating, but Greg Scott sometimes made me cack my pants with his off-the-cuff stuff (just the right side of mocking the afflicted). Ah, the glory days of late night phone-in rip-off TV! Can't wait for the "I love the 00s" clip show....

Oops - just realised, with phrases like "cack my pants" I am in danger of turning Rancey. Apols.

Debbie King: Hanging up on Quizmania is like going to the supermarket, buying a bag of brussel sprouts, walking up to the top of a giant hill, and rolling them down one by one. Who'd do that?
