BBC 4 Sketch

Here is a link to an audio trailer a friend and i made for a fake BBC 4 show, called 'The Zombies Next Door'. It's a satire of those 'worthy' documentaries you always see on TV.

Let me know what you think.

Well, it made me laugh enough to listen again!

I liked the deadpan mundanity (if that's a word) of the situation. Thought you could do something more with the recycling, like "they keep putting leftover brains in with the plastics" but maybe that would detract from the tone and is a bit contrived.

Is part of the joke that no-one else other than the narrator acts as if they're zombies?

Not sure about this to be honest. The idea certainly has potential and it was very professionally done, but I think maybe it would work better as a visual sketch, where we could see the clumsiness so the joke was more obvious.

Thanks for your comments. Yeah, i agree it would be better as a visual sketch. But our budget (£0) didn't stretch far enough for for broken toilets and zombie make-up etc. So we kept it just as audio.

It's good, professional and funny but 2 quick thoughts.

1 Poliakoff is totally the wrong director, he only ever does stuff on the upper class, so the kitchen sink feel doesn't fit him.

2 Could the Zombies do some more Zombie like stuff? Bang on Asda's window, eat people?

Yes, sorry that was a bit unhelpful.

Haha. To be honest, we had no idea what Poliakoff had actually done. We just remembered his name being mentioned every 2 minutes on BBC, so thought it would be funny to use him.
We tried to keep the zombies as mundane as possible, and paint them as the 'victims'. If we were to open it out (as a tv sketch), we would have added other elements.

And that was a good point Timbo. We could have signposted certain jokes a bit better.
