I'm good at finding direct contacts but there is always one or two that will not look at your work no matter what because it is company policy to return unsolicited scripts. So, why not set up a BSG writing agency to represent some of the writers on this site? Could be a good idea possibly if it was run professionally
BSG Writing Agency?
People are free to organise themselves as they wish, but the BSG/BCG cannot lend its name or authorisation to any such venture.
How about a detective agency specialising in sitcom related crime.

Hmm, there's been a few of those on telly recently. Nice avatar, by the way. Kimota!

Because you STILL won't know the name of the right people. You'll still only be able to get to the receptionist.
Agents don't find a company website and email them saying 'Dear sir/madam'. They have contacts who they get on the blower to and say 'All right, you old prick, how's things? Look I've got this script . . ."

Except the following:
* The Boston Consulting Group, an international management consulting firm
* Bacillus Calmette-Guérin, a vaccine for tuberculosis
* Bandaranayaka college gampaha
* Ballistocardiography, a vital sign caused by the mechanical movement of the heart which can be recorded from the surface of the body
* Berkeley Cinema Group
* Billy Gillispie, American basketball coach
* Birth Control Glasses, a dysphemism given to eyeglasses issued by the American military to its service members
* Black Classics Gangstas
* Blue Compact Galaxy, a type of low mass starburst galaxy
* Brightest cluster galaxy, the brightest and most massive galaxies in the universe

I don't think that works at ITV anymore.

You missed The British Society of Gynecology, which I'm very proud to be associated with (although ladies please don't ring them to check before your appointments... they're busy people and, come on, I look legit right?)

Seefacts is right though - we couldn't add any credibility to your scripts so it would be pointless of us to set something up. And, even if we did have the time to read and vet scripts so producers know our recommentation means something... we'd basically then just be another agent... and have no time to run the website!
Where we can help is that our new writers area will provide much more knowledge about the production companies so you can better target your scripts. It will also be able to help in a second way, but I can't mention that yet as it might not happen.

How's the nes site coming alone btw?
I understand what you are saying, though I wasn't suggesting the writers all bunched together to set up an agency. I thought however that the brains behind the site could perhaps create an agency from the wealth of material that comes through the site and perhaps you have gained some contacts through the many members of the BSG. Just a thought though.
Anyhow, you are quite right that the BSG is a superb forum and it provides both moral and practical support to its members.
Yes, we do have numerous contacts. But as Mark said, it would be IMMENSELY time consuming if we were to attempt anything remotely successful or with any seriousness.
At the end of the day, our position is thus:
The BSG/BCG is an information resource. We do not, will not, and cannot be seen to be validating, authorising or promoting peoples' work in such a manner, as it would completely destroy any remote shred of impartiality which the site may have.
We do, however, wish everyone the best of luck with their writing aspirations!

OK thanks. It's all taking much longer than expected (... which with our track record we should have suspected, ha ha) but we're getting there and I hope to be finished and ready to go in about a month. Most of the new site is obviously still work-in-progress and thus hidden but over 200 of our new guides are already online (view here), with many more published every day
I'll be posting a proper news update about progress shortly when I've got a bit more concrete info to give (like when the launch date is likely to be) so watch out for that

I see what you're saying, a writers run agency would certainly never work... as you'd be recommending yourselves.
We could indeed setup and be that impartial agency but to be honest, as Aaron says, that's not what this site is really about and if we did start going down that route it'd demand time we don't have (just looking after what we already do takes up enough time!)
Frankly you're best to go it alone anyway - much more chance of success. Networking is key and again that's something I hope the website will be able to help with more when it is re-launched (more info on this later)

Oh yes? Care to share your secrets?
If you're good at finding then, why do you need an agency to help?
Quote: Winterlight @ August 4 2008, 10:49 PM BSTOh yes? Care to share your secrets?
Just look on the internet.
That doesn't really help.
