I raised both of my kids from the ages of 1 and 2 by myself with no assistance from their mother. It wasn't a walk in the park, but it's not that difficult if you're willing to work hard. I think people are losing touch with the importance of working ahrd and taking responsibility for one's actions.

You're right.

The problem is a lot of the parents these days are no more than kids themselves whose role models were their parents who were also kids when they had them and on and on....... They have no moral guidelines or idea of consequences. They do know how to fiddle the social though.

Ok, right now'll do!

Face the wall so you can't see what I'm doing! And then juuuust stay like that a minute...

Yowza.

For the record DaButt, you would have qualified to have kids in my capitalist regime. Whether or not you thought you were ready. Cos you're nice, like.

I don't hate social workers but I don't want them dictating to people whether they can have kids or not. I don't want anybody dictating to people whether they can have kids. And if "liberal" viewpoints equate to tolerance and respecting the rights of individuals to conduct their lives as they choose, I think that counts as a liberal viewpoint.

By the way I was orphaned and adopted, and if the social workers had had their way, my adoptive parents would not have been allowed to adopt me, as they were assessed as "unsuitable", even though they both worked, owned a house, and were law-abiding citizens. I daresay they fell foul of some intellectual dogma or other and were probably marked down as paedophiles by a bunch of sociology graduates none of whom had ever raised kids themselves.

Ooh, there was something on telly about a family who couldn't adopt a baby because they were slightly the wrong shade of brown, or was it beige. Apparently they had to match exactly in order to give it a good upbringing.

So if I choose to have four kids by five different fathers so I can screw the system for a free house and free money, then that's fine by you! Great!

What a harsh tale.

Adoption is a mess, and boy am I glad I've never worked in that area.

I can't remember the last social worker I met who did a sociology degree.

At the moment in my area of work we don't really make judgements, we kinda assume our clients know whats best and help them acheive it.

It works sort of, except when it doesn't.

Social serivces have gone through a paradigmatic shift in the last 20 years.

Griff: So if I have the kids and they starve/freeze to death on the street due to lack of benefits, that's OK is it? ;)

Come to think of it, yes I do hate social workers.

But, so how did your parents become victorious over the horrible social workers?

I wans't asking you, Mr Grumpy!

I'm surprised nobody has brought up the Soylent Green solution for overpopulation.

Being serious for a second once we start judging, people tend to get hurt, badly and quickly.

The only real solution is education, and support for everyone.

We need to ask why crime, pregnancy, and substance abuse are the only ways for so many people to express them selves in any way?

Sounds like it's gone down the toilet Sooty. You assume the clients know whats best? That is quite an assumption, geezer! Phew!
