A question about the Red Planet thingy... Page 2

Submit the best thing you have. If that's the one you are working on, use that one.

I am not aware of anyone having writen an entire thirteen part drama series by the way. Might have happened mind.

Oh, and the other bit:

"representation from a leading literary agent."

What if it's one of the agent's that have previously turned me down when I submitted my novel to them?

"I am not aware of anyone having written an entire thirteen part drama series by the way."

Yes, I suppose, but I've got it all planned.
I also have ideas for series two.

Yeah, yeah, getting ahead of myself, but I can't help it. :)

Doctors is a top show. Half Soap half play for today. Brilliant for new and not so new writers alike. But as far as I am aware Red Planet have nothing to do with the show!

There's a huge fundemental flaw in this show though - the gap between it and reality.

All those home visits and involvement in patients' personal lives, etc, is so far removed from what GPs really do. I know watching someone go to their doctor for a fungal nail infection, get a prescription and go home again, or someone who's a bit fed-up being told by the GP to maybe try a hobby and get more fresh air (rather than the GP suspecting they must be being abused by their initially innocent seeming elderly aunt, spend the afternoon around their house - one of those suburban semis they film every epsiode in - and discover that the patient actually has a mental illness and has imagined the elderly aunt, because they're lacking vitamin D) would be a bit dull. But then why not film a soapy drama about a group of car park attendants who spend their days fielding off alien attacks using celtic magic and space-age gadgets?

I would like to write an episode of Doctors though. Just to see how far they would let you push the reality of a GP's job and how many unbelievable twists you could throw in.

That's true of any drama really if you think about it though the Divine Ms D.

The other thing is they can be very funny. And I know of one writer who has had episodes nominated for a Bafta and a Golden Rose amongst others. You should have a go definitely!!

:)

Oh yeah, I didn't mean 'they' as in Red Planet!

Hmm. Yeah, I guess.

I WAS going to submit my pilot for a 13 part drama I'm working on.
I'll shelve that and save that for another opportunity.

I won't bother now. I'll just submit something else, if it's just to show off skills.

And, I supose it's actually a good thing to add to one's CV. ;)

But have a complete episode ready though.

Trouble is I don't get time to watch this. I have to go to bloody work.

(Yes - I know I could tape it) Is Carole Royle still in it?

Who's Carole Royle??

Oooh the sticky fingered cake lady. No she isn't in it anymore.

:)

I know someone who was in an episode. She said she had a good laugh making it.

And I am concerned about Bracken. Seems she's receiving some very chaotic childcare.

I couldn't write an epsiode, though I do have some very funny experiences with drs. My sister's GP even had a nervous breakdown during a consultation with her.

Lol.

What Episode was it... I almost called you Double D there but stopped myself in time??

:)

Incidently...

How many people here have entered the Red Planet comp?

Well, I might enter this one, plus that Summer comp too.

...just to see what happens. :)

Is it really a year since the last one?

Dunno, I wasn't here last year.

Didn't some woman win last year with some kind of biopic drama?
I'm sure I read that one their website, but it's gone now. (the last year winner story, not the website!)

Yes, it sounded quite interesting - shame it wasn't actually made. Although I did keep thinking of that Blackadder episode and Beryl Bainbridge's 'According to Queenie'.

Wasn't there a finalist on here who wrote a screenplay involving a pigmy hippo, or something?

It hasn't been made cause it's in development. Anyhoo....

Oh, are they going to make it?

I thought the prize was to write on something else...
