British Comedy Guide

Can anyone help me?

I am a 50 year old guy in the US who isn't used to these forums - I'm not even sure I'm doing this right.
Anyway, back somewhere between 1985 and 1988 I lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA and the public TV station there showed a lot of great British Sitcoms like Good Neighbors and To The Manor Born, etc. We have enjoyed these for years.
However, I cannot remember the name of one show and it's driving me crazy.
The plot is: a middle aged couple has three grown kids that either don't leave the house or keep moving back in - frustrating their dad to no end. The older daughter is sweet but has a kind of goofy boyfriend, the second daughter is a party girl and they also had a son but I don't remember what the problem with him was.
The dad was played by an actor who was a little like John Cleese - but it was not him. I thought the boyfriend was played by Karl Howman, but I can't find this show listed on his website.
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

As Time Goes By?

Actually on second thoughts, I don't think it is.

Anyone got any ideas?

No Place Like Home (I think)

Home Sweet Home is Australian and is about an Italian family who moves to Australia. As Time Goes By is huge here in America - it's shown on almost all Public TV stations.
The show I am lookign for was certainly shot in England with an English family somewhere in the suburbs.
But thank you for responding.

I've changed that post (Home Sweet Home). I couldn't remember the name originally. Try it again.

I thought it was Butterflies (?) at first. But that was sons, not daughters.

Did it star Julia Swahala (or one of the sisters?)
