British Comedy Guide

General Britcom question

When I started to watch British comedies several years back, I quickly observed that most series were only 6 episodes long. In some cases there are 8 episodes. Most American sitcoms run 20 to 22 episodes per season.

The first season of Green Acres was 32 episodes, and it ran for 6 years. Red Dwarf on the other hand produced 52 episodes in total over 8 series.

Why are most British series only 6 or 8 episodes long?

One possible explaination I've found is that British shows tend to only have one or two writers, while an American shows often employees a team.

Sorry of this has been asked previously.

Yep there was one recently.

As you'll see, there are a number of reasons, and I think it was pretty much all covered in there. Hope it helps! :)

Thank you.
That helps.

I've been watching Not Going Out and I was alittle dissapointed when Kate the American girl moved out(not because I'm American). Anybody like this show?

Yes, it's one of the site's favourites. Go back a few pages and there'll be some Not Going Out threads somewhere. :)

Thanks, just saw it, don't know how I missed it.

I was going to say quality over quantity.

I'm not English (so that's an outside opinion.)
