Quote: Sunflick @ July 23 2008, 11:41 AM BSTWhen I was a teenager I was playing on my PC when the screen started flashing and then the lights went off. First thought? powercut? No, for some reason I thought aliens had landed and were invading.
To this day I have no idea why I thought that but I've never been so scared than when I thought I would have to be a slave to a galactic overlord.
What?!?
Quote: chipolata @ July 23 2008, 11:00 AM BSTDon't you risk getting the bends doing that? Or is that only for deep sea diving?
The bends is where you dive too deep. It's pretty serious.

Is it like in subs where they make the bending metal noise?

Decompression sickness (DCS), the diver's disease, the bends, or caisson disease is the name given to a variety of symptoms suffered by a person exposed to a decrease (nearly always after a big increase) in the pressure around the body.
Causes aching, confusion, burning, stinging.

Oh right so like you get when you drive up a steep mountain and your ears pop? but like 100% worse?
Doesnt the suit help against that though?
The suit is for insulation and protecting you against grazes.

Quote: Griff @ July 23 2008, 12:01 PM BSTBack in the 1980s we were brought up on horrifying anti-nuclear films like Threads and The Day After.
One day one of my pals saw a military aircraft flying over Cardiff (not unusual since RAF St.Athan was nearby), decided that a nuclear war had started, and ran around in a huge panic telling everyone we were all going to die.
That's great!
I've been in some scary situations:
My car catching fire on the motorway and all but the breaks failing. Managed to get onto the hard shoulder and out before it went up in flames.
Narrowly missing a rear kick to the head from a large angry stud horse who was in a field with a public footpath.
Having my first allergic reaction after eating a chocolate covered brazil nut when I suddenly had a Leslie Ash trout pout and a bovine tongue.
Having life saving surgery.
But I must admit I was most scared when I went to the hairdressers, about two years ago, and got my hair cut for the first time in my life. Maybe it was because it was an event I knew was happening, whilst the others were emergencies. Btw my hair was very long and now no one calls me Rapunzal in the street anymore.
