It is reasonable to give it away, but pick a decent way to do so; through The Mail is just an awful decision to me; the only-ONLY reason they've done it is because they will be guaranteed a fat, fat wadge of cash. Which is fine, they should get paid, but I dont think it's snobby to think it's an awfully tacky way to go about it-there are other ways they could have gotten the music out there.

A band has to feed itself and the only people who can complain about bands trying out new ways of making money are those who have never downloaded an MP3. We all want our music free, so the bands have to make a few bucks somehow.

My friend's band "sold out" to Volkswagen and it didn't bother me a bit. It was kind of fun to hear their songs between television shows.

Um... Talking Heads...?

Oh and did you know that McFly are still releasing their album commercially in September?

Why would anyone buy it if they could already get it for the price of a paper? Odd. Unless theres some free stickers or something.

One of the things wrong with a lot of current bands is the line ups. STILL two bloody guitars, bass and drums. And standing in front of a mike stand and poncing about waving your head is not much of a performance anymore.

Exactly. I have often dreamt about forming a 44 guitar piece band with one other member on the ocarina.

heh! stickers. So true.

The one in the paper will come in a manky cardboard case. I can only see that as being the difference. I think under UK chart laws, you can't give stickers away with a CD.

Would the guy on the ocarina get the same money?

Christ on a bike-if you think it's reasonable and not in the least soul sucking to give your new album away with a newspaper, then thats up to you. You are completely wrong of course, but its up to you. :D

Wait, you know someone in Wilco?

It really annoys me how many albums these days seem to be in little carbaord sleeves-I want a sturdy plastic box! They look nice on me shelf! The environment be damned!

The new Elbow album comes in an interesting plastic case.

I think this thread is on "A road to nowhere"..

I am going to cook some spag bol --- laters, dudes!

To quote thee-'Get out!'

Upbeat, catchy pop as opposed to dull, whiney, self-righteous vegan wankery? I'll go for the Danes thanks.

You now must justify that statement by unveiling just how this plastic box is interesting. Justify. JUSTIFY.

There is room for misery as well as fun in life, Aaron.

I can separate a band's financial needs from their music. If they're honest and sincere with their art I couldn't care less how they pay their bills.

Wait, you know someone in Wilco?

Yep.
