Somebody tell Dougie! I don't think he knows.
I mean that I doubt they run it. They just turn up and get told what to do.

I'll take that as a yes then!

Quote: Aaron @ July 20 2008, 8:19 PM BSTIf you make music because you love it, I doubt you care who hears it and (within reason) how they get to hear it. Only the snobby music Nazi fans get pissy.
Wrongy wrong wrong; artists with any self respect surely wouldn't be happy with their music being given out free with a paper. Not a brand new album anyway; maybe a little E.P. or a collection-but the whole of the brand new album you've just spent months or even years creating? I'm not a music Nazi, I just think it's very tacky to give away your new album with a newspaper. Obviously I'm not in McFly, so it's up to them, but I just think I'd feel like I'd died a little inside if I said Ok to something like that.
Anyway-what right have you got to talk about modern music Aaron?! I though it had been established long ago that you see no worth in any recent music! You are the ultimate music Nazi!!
Quote: PhQnix @ July 20 2008, 8:10 PM BSTI like to feel snobby?
Must be in your element then.
Quote: Nil Putters @ July 20 2008, 8:22 PM BSTMe too. Everyday at work. Love 'The Big Quiz'. Annoyed with Steve Wrights stand-ins though. Can't stand either of them.
Oh is it thingy and wotsit?
Erm Tarbuck woman and the man Mark....
I like them!
Quote: catskillz @ July 20 2008, 8:22 PM BSTEh? Name 5 black British singers/groups who get regular play on Radio 1.
You really think he could name one modern pop band/singer-black or otherwise?!
Quote: zooo @ July 20 2008, 8:17 PM BSTTim Westwood thinks so.
Jessie actually went for a job interview at his company. First thing he does is offer a cup of tea.

Christ, Tim Westwood as your boss; there would definitely be a lot of material there!
Quote: Matthew Stott @ July 20 2008, 8:17 PM BSTI don't actually ever listen to music on the radio, so I've no idea what gets on Radio 1 these days. In my imagination it's pretty horrific.
In my imagination it's wall-to-wall "niggaz", "pimps", "hos" and "bitches". Brap.
On the McFly thing. All young bands (especially young white bands) have always been derivative, including The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cream, etc. in their day, but those bands added something of their own.
The young bands of today don't seem to be doing that any more. I don't think it's the bands fault, as they can't inherently be any less talented per se, it's the industry itself probably.
There are some bands doing something different, I'm sure. They're just not in the mainstream so you have to work hard finding them.

I know several (somewhat) famous musicians and every one of them is more concerned about people hearing their music than the dollars and cents of the music industry. Certainly they want to make a living, but they still give away entire albums' worth of music on their websites because they're excited about it and want to share it with their fans.
How much does a newspaper pay a band to distribute their CD? Just curious.
Quote: zooo @ July 20 2008, 8:19 PM BSTI listen to radio 2!
I am jolly old.
But classy.
