Why exactly are they 'bands'?

I don't even like McFly particularly, but they play their instruments, write their own songs, lyrics etc.

Because they're manufactured. They're cold and plastic, formed purely to make money by appealing to the lowest common denominator of music taste.

Just because the music isn't to your or my taste doesn't mean they deserve inverted commas!

That's not how I work it. I don't like metal bands but I don't use inverted commas for them because they aren't formed to just make money.

I ain't no comedy snob!

Never said you were.. I was considering BSG as a whole.. and including myself!

McFly weren't though.

Take That were, obviously. But I'd rather go on how the music sounds to me and whether they write it and mean it, rather than judge them purely on how they got together, that sems a bit simplistic and pathetic.

S'alright then.
*puts water gun back in holster*

I hate McFly even more now.

They were on Chris Moyles the other day promoting their 'free' CD giveaway. Moylesy kept saying "You're making no money out of this? Are you mad?" and they pretending to be all humble about it.

BUT!

The fact is: THEY ARE GETTING PAID! All these free give away things get a one off fee from The Daily Mail. Prince got £250,000 when he did it. I don't know how much McFly will get, but it is not a free giveaway.

McFly weren't though.

The lead singer of McFly originally auditioned for Busted. They were 'formed' by outside influences.

I don't purely judge them on how they got together. They make insipid music and they aren't particularly talented, that's why I don't like them. I use inverted commas because they're not really 'bands.'

God forbid, a band getting paid for an album.
Selfish boys.

Led Zep 2 is a real classic. Whole lotta Love was stolen from a Small Faces song.

Yes. I think that's my favourite Led Zep album. It's got Heartbreaker on as well.

They were lying about not getting money. I wonder what God would think of that?

There is too much emphasis on who produced the music rather than whether you actually like the song.

I'm certainly not a fan of Take That (the people) and I never will be - but I like a couple of their new songs and will not switch them off when I hear them just because theyre by Take That.

I like quite a few Take That songs.

God likes McFly; all the cool bands go to Hell.

Yes, the Tom bloke made his own band. Nobody 'put them together'.
Like I said, hate them because you hate their music or their personalities, fine. But don't see that they're a pop band and then decide they must be manufactured.

Just to make it clear: I don't like there music. I don't respect them because they're not a real band.

Because they're manufactured.

I wouldn't mind betting that the vast majority of music acts of all time fit this criteria. You just don't know about it.

appealing to the lowest common denominator of music taste.

Something catchy and entertaining, you mean? That doesn't have some kind of wanky message to it?

Quote: PhQnix @ July 20 2008, 7:49 PM BST

Yeah, playing their own instruments is like, SO untalented.

Definition then please?

Quote: PhQnix @ July 20 2008, 7:53 PM BST

I don't respect them because they're not a real band.

That's the only bit I'm objecting to!

Where's the line of respect? Do they have to have formed in college, and not been introduced by a mate, but have known each other for a minimum of 15 years and grown up within a 10 mile radius of each other.

Even Girls Aloud?! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
